Written for RDP where Brian asks us
to get creative with the word “cone”.

In 1993, The Coneheads movie was released. It was the story of Beldar (Dan Aykroyd) and Prymatt (Jane Curtin), an alien couple with cone-shaped heads from the planet Remulak, mistakenly ditched on earth during a scouting mission for planetary conquest. While here, they dodge the INS, have a conehead baby, and discover that life on Earth is quite good. But, unfortunately, they are being chased by the US government who knows something is not quite right with the Conehead Family. After they are rescued and taken back to their planet, Beldar vows to return to earth and conquer it. Fortunately, that didn’t happen because a follow-up movie was never made.
In hindsight, one might call The Coneheads “prophetic”; however, making a political statement is not the point of my post. This is:
Our sons, who were 15 and 13 at the time, really wanted to see the movie. We were vacationing in Montauk when I read that the movie was being shown in the Southampton theater …. about a 45 minute drive. So, one evening when my husband decided to do some rare night fishing, I took the boys to the diner in Southampton, then to see The Coneheads. The theater was just about empty, which should have been our first clue. The movie was one of the most awful flicks I’ve ever seen and none of us liked it. It was right up there on a par with the Garbage Pail Kids, a 1987 theatrical bomb our kids were clamoring to see. Clearly, our boys had horrible taste in movies back then.
Over the years, we’ve laughed about having watched those movies but I think the laughter is just a coverup for our kid’s embarrassment. Not to worry; I won’t torment them about their juvenile lack of judgement forever. Oh, who’s kidding who? Of course I will! What kind of mother would I be if I didn’t?

This is the trailer for The Coneheads. My apologies.

So funny Nance – and of course you have to keep tormenting them – that’s what we do 🤣

haha! The Garbage Pail Kids! Did your boys have their trading cards? Mine, did! You know, I did not realize there was a Coneheads movie. Thanks for letting me know I didn’t miss anything! 😂

Of course they had the cards …. hundreds of them. They were disgusting but hilarious! So, does that mean you’re not the least bit tempted to watch the movie? Can’t say I blame you! 😂
