A Little Help Would Be Nice

Written for Thursday Inspiration
“Help Me”

For this week’s Thursday Inspiration, Jim Adams asks us to respond to the challenge in any number of ways, including using the prompt word trouble, by means of the song ‘Help Me’ by Joni Mitchell, or another song with a similar theme. I’ve written a poem …. a humorous plea for help …. in response to Jim’s challenge.

A Little Help Would Be Nice

I washed the dishes, swept the floor,
Mended what got torn before,
But trouble’s knocking at the door
When I’m the only one who chores.

The stew’s half-burnt, the shirts unpressed,
I swear I’m doing my level best,
But a house needs two to pass the test ….
Baby, don’t leave me with this mess.

Now walk with me when I walk out,
Stay close when troubles come about,
I need you near, no room for doubt,
That’s what this whole thing’s all about.

So lend a hand, or here’s my plea:
I’ll find somebody else, you’ll see ….
But the truth is, trouble’s easier
When you’re right here beside me.

Many thanks to Jim Adams for this week’s inspiration. Thanks to you all for stopping by for a look and a listen.

That’s all she wrote, kids.

See you on the flip side. 😎

    1. True! We’re fortunate to have husbands who willingly help out around the house and go shopping. I’m very pleased to say my sons do the same. They and their wives are all busy with jobs, kids, and life in general; everyone working together is the only way things get done! Thanks for your thoughts, Di.

      1. WE share the chores. Our neighbours used to have pink jobs and blue jobs. Since he died, she says the jobs are now all purple, but she’s been able to afford getting people in when necessary for the blue stuff.

  1. Great post, Nancy that perfectly matched the song and the picture that you used. Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers covered the Sonny Boy Williamson II, Willie Dixon, and Ralph Bass blues standard during their 2010 Mojo album sessions. Most household jobs go better when two people are helping each other out, as that makes the work go faster and it feels more fun. Thanks for joining in again with this.
