Our PoW, Jaideep, asks us to write
a Heritage-Tech Fusion poem.
Heritage-Tech Fusion is a poem of just three lines that brings together a cultural tradition and modern technology. My senryu is inspired by Opera dei Pupi …. the traditional Sicilian marionette theatrical art forms which are now being preserved using advanced 3D motion capture and interactive audio-visual displays. Virtual Reality programs allow museum visitors to manipulate digital clones of historical puppets or step onto virtual stages representing medieval chivalric tales.

Pupo’s strings go slack ….
motion sensors learn his gait
now the world can pull

This is “L’armata Dei Pupi Siciliani” (Army of Sicilian Puppets) by Calabria Sona
And, of course, there’s the evil Don Fanucci from “Godfather 2″ who briefly stops to watch the puppet show during la festa.
Everything on The Elephant’s Trunk was created by me, except where otherwise indicated. Thanks for your consideration. NAR©2017-present.

I love puppetry. I worked with the Black Theatre of Prague which was an incredible and unforgettable experience.Nancy, just as Ange says—your three-lines make a great senryū

I’m so glad you found this relatable, Lesley. How fascinating to know you are experienced in puppetry; you are quite the Jill of all trades! It’s a fascinating art. Thanks very much! ☺️

Brilliant senryũ Nance – an eerie commentary on how modern tech doesn’t untether us – it just replaces one set of strings with an invisible, inescapable web👏
