Written for Rena’s Xploration Challenge
where our inspiration is the word ‘numinous’.

The stranger on the corner holds a sign,
his eyes contain a numinous, old light…
what looks like ruin is, perhaps, divine,
and what seems day may be the edge of night.
The house that leans on Eldritch Lane appears
abandoned, rotted through with want and shame,
yet love has grown there, patient, through the years,
and something holy answered when you came.
We read each other’s faces like a map
we printed wrong, mistaking hill for plain…
the sacred hides inside the mundane gap,
and gods, they say, have walked in wind and rain.

We miss out on gods walking in the sun and rain, as we keep looking in the ether.
