Waiting For The Dance

Our gracious host, Rochelle, is asking us to get
creative in 100 words or less using the photo
seen below. Welcome to Friday Fictioneers.
This is where the prompt took me.

Every night, Kenny walked the alley alone, convinced the murals whispered secrets.

The red-brick woman with hollow eyes had watched three generations pass. The swirling mandala remembered when people danced in the street. Colorful figures pressed against each other like tenements fighting for space.

One evening, Kenny stopped. Really stopped.

He noticed a small painted hand near the ground, reaching outward… hopeful.

He pressed his palm against it. It pressed back.

Somewhere above, a lamp flickered on.

The alley had waited years for someone to finally listen… not to the noise of the city, but to its quiet, painted heart.
