From The Other Side

Here’s where the image took me.

I have been standing at this wall for longer than I can say. It rises out of the clouds beneath my feet …. solid, peeling, inexplicable …. as though someone laid the foundations of a house directly on the sky. I do not question this. I have learned not to question what holds me up.

The door was already open when I arrived. From somewhere in that darkness, I watch my own hand reach forward into the light, offering these pale flowers …. not-quite-pink, almost-lavender …. to whoever might be standing on the other side of the threshold. I cannot see them. I can only extend my arm and trust that the gesture means something, that softness offered across a boundary does not simply fall away into clouds.

I reach through the dark
pale flowers, open palms
sky
holding us both up

  1. I absolutely love this Haibun, surreal, but also, for me, so real … I was definitely living in the clouds when I wrote this piece from hospital bed, after having my 3rd stroke, back in 2019 …

    Crawling Out Of A Void

Falls and crawls of energy waning
Glares and stares of eyes opening
Help and kindness of paramedics working
Clangs and chimes of sirens roaring
Awakening from a void of dreams
    Visualising my spirit draining
Ins and outs of doorways slamming
Shrieks and shrills of voices screaming
Ups and downs of painfully surviving
Highs and lows of slowly recovering
Awakening from a void of dreams
    Realising my life’s gradually healing

      1. Thank you for appreciating my poem and yes, it was a very frustrating and exhausting for me , and thankfully Carole was no longer here this time to endure what I was going through… but all said and done, I recovered enough to go on my lifetime dream of visiting my cousins in Philadelphia, and of course dear Carole’s soul traveled with me every step of the way … 🥰💕
