Missing Her

Written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt where
she asks us to get creative in exactly 50 words using
the word ‘abacus’ and for Sue & Gerry’s
Weekly Prompts – Colour Challenge – blue
Here’s where the prompts took me.

The old mathematician kept a blue abacus on his desk, a gift from his daughter before she sailed away. Each evening, he’d slide the beads slowly, counting the days since her departure. Numbers had always been his comfort. Tonight, though, he simply held it, and  felt blue missing her laugh.
