Written for Cinquain Poetry Prompt
where our inspiration is “the end”.
This is my American cinquain.

Silence
’fore the last note,
the snake swallows its tail,
the circle complete, nothing lost…
reborn.
Strip off
each gilded lie,
burn father’s hollow throne;
wild blood remembers the wet mud
beneath.
Walk thru
the blue darkness,
no map, name, or mirror,
only the breathing, ancient, veiled
jungle.

Nancy’s Notes: An American cinquain follows the 2-4-6-8-2 syllable pattern per stanza. Each stanza here moves through Jim Morrison’s arc …. the dissolution of the false self, the destruction of imposed order, and the return to something older and truer. The famous spoken-word section (“Father? I want to kill you…”) is often interpreted as a theatrical re-enactment of the Oedipus myth, exploring themes of destroying societal authority (“father”) and returning to nature (“mother”) and is not intended to be taken literally.

Well, here in Aussieland we have the world’s most poisonous snakes, Nancy

we don’t get too many snakes here. Bizarrely the only time I’ve seen a snake out in the wild, was in a zoo, a snake had come into the zoo area from the surrounding countryside. I think the zoo, moved him back there.

That’s very funny! Thanks for sharing, Gary. I live in New York and the only snakes here of the politicians! 😂

Now, if every snake would swallow its own tail! Well, I guess we’d be in trouble because they do eat a lot of pests.

I’ve never seen any snakes in my garden and I would just soon keep it that way, thank you! 🐍

Wow Nance this is brilliant- an atmospheric tribute that captures the mythology Jim built around himself, focusing on the mystic imagery that defined his lyrics and persona🙌 Brava

Thank you for such a wonderful comment, Ange! I don’t know if anyone truly understood Jim Morrison and his mystique, but I had a fab time digging into his head and this song which has aways fascinated me. I’m delighted knowing you enjoyed my cinq! 💕
