…. because some of you have been asking.

It’s just over three weeks since my third surgery and I have been in this splint since then. I don’t have any pain, but there are times when my hand feels like it’s fallen asleep or is being stuck with needles. I take the splint off in the morning when I shower and put it back on when I’m done. I am not supposed to use my hand at all. The tips of my fingers are exposed and I am encouraged to bend them at the first knuckle. The doctor does not want me doing anything more than that, especially not bending at the lowest knuckle joint or at the wrist; wearing the splint prevents any movement except for my fingertips. I’m doing everything with my left hand while at the same time trying to keep it from getting injured. Even the smallest thing has become a project. If I didn’t have my dictation app, I’d probably be pulling my hair out! Physical therapy starts May 11; I pray nothing goes wrong like it did last time. I’m anxious for some semblance of normal.
Thank you all for your very good wishes. I appreciate you so much.
Best always, Nancy

Thank you for a beautiful comment, my friend. My philosophy is really very simple: complaining about my lot in life won’t make it any better so I try to keep my sense of humor and look my best. For me, that works. 😊

Thanks for the update. I’ve just tried to move my finger at the first kncukle and both of them bend!ope the new physio goes well.

I’ve learned a lot about fingers over the last 11 months, Di. It’s not unusual for fingers to bend together; in fact, they often do. In that regard, you are quite normal! Thanks for your good wishes. 😊

Thanks for the update and I am glad you seem to be healing alright. Are you getting used to using speech to text yet. I use it quite a bit and then have to have my AI assistant correct it and add the necessary punctuation.
Good luck and GOD’s Speed on your recovery.

For the most part, dictation is going very well, but just like anything, it makes mistakes or doesn’t have the ability to do certain things so I have to go in and make corrections manually. Still, it’s better than having to type everything with my left hand. Thanks for your very good wishes, Mark. I have been thinking a lot about you and your eye condition. You are in my prayers. 🙏🏼

Holy moly, Nancy! The first thing I thought of when I saw your splint was Eric Carle’s book, “The Hungry Caterpillar.” Well, it looks like a caterpillar to me! Good luck with PT. And I hope this is the very last surgery you have to have! ❤️

My hope exactly, Lois! I never really thought about the splint looking like a caterpillar; maybe if it was fuzzy, green and cute I might think differently, and it would probably make me hate it less! 🐛 Thanks for your very good wishes, my friend ❤️

Yeah, they could have at least matched your splint to your nail color!

Hahaha! They have lots of different colored Velcro for the straps, but the splint themselves only come in black and beige and the beige is so nowhere! She was a 🤩

The splint lacks a bit of cheerful colouring, and I don’t see any funny squiggles or silly jokes …

Well, that was a very strange video! No, my splint has no personality. It’s very conservative and all business! 😂 🥰

It must be so frustrating for you Nance is hope the physio goes well – but I’m glad to see you are still painting your nails 💅 😊

It is frustrating, Ange, but I’ve always been of the mindset that if we take care of our appearance, get washed and dressed every day, we will automatically feel better. Looking good is half the battle, right? Thanks so much, my friend. 🥰

I don’t know how you feel about “self healing” – when I meditate I imagine all my little “internal soldiers and builders” repairing injury, the little stabs etc repairing, and listen to what my body needs, I believe it tells you…. So when you start PT, listen to your body (as well as your doctor) – not always your head, that seems to want to over push …. If any of that makes sense…!? Healing vibes 💞

The weird looking things now-a-days. Glad for the no pain part. A left handed unco in the house must mean mopping up spills 😁
