Written for Sunday Whirl Wordle. Our host is
Brenda Warren; the prompt words for this week are
shown below. Here’s where the prompts took me.
limits, list, still, bill, smoke, ring,
distant, wish, silky, spill, fit, key

The smoke ring drifted toward the ceiling like a lazy wish dissolving into warm air. Rocco leaned back against the leather booth, one arm draped around Elena, who fit perfectly against his side as though she’d always belonged there.
“You still haven’t told me,” she murmured, her fingers tracing slow circles on his knee. “What’s on your list?”
He exhaled slowly, watching the smoke float and vanish. “Distant places. Unfinished things.” His eyes dropped to hers. “You.”
She let a small smile spill across her silky lips. “That’s dangerously close to crossing some limits, Rocco.”
“Maybe I want to.” He set the cigar on the rim of his glass, the bill for the evening long forgotten on the edge of the table. He reached into his pocket and placed a small brass key between them.
Elena’s breath caught. “What does it open?”
“My place on the coast.” His voice was low, rough around the edges like good whiskey. “Stay the week.”
She looked at the key, then at him …. the dark eyes, the unhurried confidence, the smoke still curling between them like a question.
She picked it up.

Fab Nance it feels like a classic noir high-stakes romance novel – great sensory imagery and the line – ‘The smoke still curling between them like a question’ – standout 🙌
