Written for dVerse Poets Pub – Open Link Night
where our host, Lillian, has invited us to write a
poem of our choosing. I have used one of the
images of street art graciously offered to us
by Lillian. Thanks, Lillian! Here’s my take.

She showed up painted on a wall ….
teal-faced, braided, impossibly tall,
holding a yellow bloom like a secret
nobody else was meant to keep yet.
He sat beside her, orange-shirted,
wide-eyed, open-mouthed, converted
to whatever faith two strangers share
when a flower hangs in the city air.
I don’t know who put them there.
I don’t know who thought to pair
one girl with a gift, one boy with a drink,
their enormous heads beginning to think
the same slow thought….
that something is caught,
right here on this concrete,
right here on this street,
between the rain and the park
and the going-on-dark,
between the real and the painted thing:
the flower, the wall, the imagining.

LOVE what you did with the image and the song!
Am especially smitten with these lines:”the same slow thought….that something is caught, right here on this concrete, right here on this street, between the rain and the parkand the going-on-dark,between the real and the painted thing:the flower, the wall, the imagining.”
SO GLAD YOU POSTED!

Thanks, Ange! The minute I saw Lillian’s image, I started hearing that fabulous old song by the Cowsills. Everything just fell into place after that. ✨ 💛
