Back In The O-O-OR!

Here we go again!

Round three tomorrow, kids. Here’s hoping the third time is the charm.

So, the tendon of another finger has indeed ruptured and will be repaired tomorrow. It’s a bit more complicated this time as my old friend Mrs. Arthritis has taken up residency in my wrist, causing a good deal of wear and tear. The MRI showed the ulna tendon, which goes from the elbow to the wrist, is also affected …. not ruptured but there are some tears in the tendon at the wrist. The good news is the finger and ulna tendons will be repaired at the same time through the same incision. Unfortunately, the surgeon has told me I will likely be quite sore for about two weeks post op.

How appropriate that the finger involved this time is my middle finger, which I will be proudly waving as they wheel me into the OR! 😂

On another note, I met with the rheumatologist yesterday; she was shocked to learn the surgeon told me I have RA. She thought that was a rash statement for him to make considering my bloodwork showed I was barely borderline. Since there’s a possibility my numbers have changed, we did new bloodwork and will compare the latest findings with my previous results. Hopefully, I’m still borderline.

I have some posts scheduled for the first few days after surgery; after that, I’ll play it by ear. The built-in dictation in my Mac is a godsend and I’ve gotten really good at typing with only my left hand. It’s impressive! Still, please bear with me as I may be unable to respond or comment as usual.

You know, it takes a lot to bring me down but this situation got old real fast. It’s now 10 months since my initial injury and five months since the first surgery …. five months in a splint 23 hours a day. I’ve had it! Wish me luck, my friends!

Thanks!

Nancy xo

Just for fun, here’s the original.

And just when you thought you couldn’t have any more fun, check out this guy’s reaction!

  1. Nancy, somehow I missed this post, but I saw your later posts when you said that you’ll be back after surgery. So I went back and found this. Like all of your other fans, I do hope the surgery goes well (or, by now maybe I should be saying “went well”).

  2. I’m so sorry everything is going pear shaped Nancy. Hopefully they will sort it this time and I shall be thinking of you.
Hubby’s trigger finger op went horribly wrong last year and we were up to the UTC practically every day for dressing changes and antibiotics when he got an infection. Our GP surgery was useless. and it was a UTC job to remove stitches…….. three of which were missed and he took them out himself. He now has no feeling in his ring finger and cannot bend his middle finger. As for making a fist, that’ll be a no. Being a leftie has made things even more difficult!
Al is so good. Made me smile as always.

  3. Man! I’m sorry for your continued struggles with this, and the frustration of having doctors who don’t talk and coordinate with each other. But that’s “Living in ‘Muricka” isn’t it? Sending good, healing vibes your way. ❤️‍🩹

    1. Hahaha!! Thank you my sister! I just received a message on my patient portal with a copy of my lab report; you would think I am the most boring person in the world, at least from a medical standpoint. Every test came back normal which means somebody has some splainin’ to do!

  4. I am not sure that saying whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger is going to help you much, but I guess it would be better than saying break a leg. Good wishes that the job get done right this time around.
