Open Planes

Written for Cinquain Poetry Prompt
where our inspiration is “pride”.
This is my cinquain.

lions
with golden manes
ruling the open plane
they walk where only thunder dares
to roam

warm dusk
lions at rest
cubs play in amber light
the pride breathes soft as fading sun
descends

night falls
roar splits the dark
the wide plane holds its breath
each living creature bows its head
in awe

still eyes
half-closed at peace
they need no crowns to reign
what blood and bones and time have built
stands proud

  1. This song…and old favorite that never gets old. This and ‘Wipeout’…love them both.

Wonderful poem, Nancy. The majesty of lions is breathtaking. You captured it well here.
