Written for Sadje’s “What Do You See”.
Here’s where the image took me.

She does not ask the water’s permission,
bow pressed like a blade
against the blue resistance,
sails swollen with conviction.
What the wave gives up
becomes white lace along the hull,
the sea’s small surrender,
written and immediately erased.
The wind does not explain itself;
neither does she.
This is her mission, her desire –
leaning into the horizon as if she knows
something certain waits on the other side.
