Written for Gerry & Sue’s Weekly Prompts
Weekend Challenge using the word ‘squish’.
Here’s where the prompt took me.
In a Daisy Chain poem, the last word in a line
becomes the first word of the next line and on to end;
the last word of the chain is the same as the first word.

Squish goes the mud beneath my toes,
cool and dark from yesterday’s rain.
Rain that filled the garden rows,
the squish of earthworms turning soil below.
Below the surface, roots drink deep,
the squish of life in hidden places.
Places where the beetles creep,
the squish of mushrooms soft as sleep.
Sleep descends on soggy ground,
the squish of dreams in dampened air.
Air that holds the evening sound,
the squish of footsteps homeward bound.
Bound together, earth and feet,
the squish of joy in simple things.
Things that make a day complete,
the satisfying feel and sound of Squish.

I suddenly fancy walking barefoot in mud. Mud that’s really squishy!

Thanks so much, Sadje. I’ve never written a Daisy Chain poem before; squish sounded like a fun word to start with. 😁
