with the words “service”, “son” and
“today”. Here’s where the prompt took me.
My son boards the bus today
duffel bag across his back.
He’s chosen service, chosen duty
I’ve chosen not to look away.
His jaw is set, his handshake firm.
I nod. He nods. The engine starts.
Some things don’t need words.

Thank you, Ange. Sometimes words just seem to make things worse. 💔 I discovered Jack Savoretti’s music a few years ago and fell in love with his voice. I’m glad you enjoyed his song; I should feature him more often.
