This week at Glyn Wilton’s Mixed Music Bag,
he’s asking us to write about a song in which
the title or a line mentions the current month.
Here’s my December artist and his song.

Welcome back to the final Glyn Wilton’s Mixed Music Bag for 2025! Here is my artist and his song for Christmas Eve. Merry Christmas!
Brett Eldredge is an American country singer-songwriter from Paris, Illinois. Born in 1986, he grew up listening to Sinatra and Ray Charles before discovering country. Eldredge attended Middle Tennessee State Uni, immersing himself in Music City’s songwriting scene. He is known for his smooth, husky baritone voice, blending traditional country with soulful, crooner vibes. He writes much of his own music, focusing on authentic, heartfelt stories, and openly discusses his anxiety and therapy which enhances his music. Eldredge’s authentic storytelling style is especially evident in his successful holiday albums, blending country roots with pop influences. In 2014 he won a CMA New Artist award and is celebrated for genuine lyrics, big-band Christmas shows, and exploring mental health issues in his music.
“Sweet December” is a heartwarming, original holiday duet by Brett Eldredge and Kelly Clarkson, released in late 2024 on Eldredge’s third Christmas album, Merry Christmas (Welcome to the Family). The song showcases their natural vocal chemistry and a classic festive feel; it continues their successful professional partnership from their earlier duet, “Under the Mistletoe”. This beautiful holiday song captures the magic of an evolving romance during the holidays, telling a story of love amplified by the festive season, with lyrics about Christmas lights, classic songs, and cozy moments.

LYRICS
I need a holiday, I felt so out of place
I find the only truth is in your eyes
The world feels upside down, you turn it back around
Through wind and snow, you are my northern star
Baby, baby, turn on the Christmas tree
Take me home and set me free
A blanket’s good but your love’s even better
Baby, baby, put on the classic songs
You make me wanna sing along
Your heart’s good at making me remember
It’s gonna be a sweet December
The year was long, it’s true
But I’m holding onto you
We’re melting by the fire, as it pops
And the holly fills the air (fills the air)
There’s beauty everywhere (everywhere)
And you lead me to the light, don’t ever stop (don’t ever stop)
Baby, baby, turn on the Christmas tree
Take me home and set me free
A blanket’s good but your love’s even better
Baby, baby, put on the classic songs
You make me wanna sing along
Your heart’s good at making me remember
It’s gonna be a sweet December, oh
I, I follow your footprints in the snow
Your love is what always leads me home
Baby, baby, turn on the Christmas tree
Take me home and set me free
A blanket’s good but your love’s even better (even better)
Oh baby, baby, put on the classic songs
You make me wanna sing along
Your heart’s good at making me remember
It’s gonna be a sweet
December (December)
Oh, it’s gonna be it (oh yeah)

New Christmas songs, more than ordinary songs, are not always easy to accept. People like tradition. I enjoyed this one and I’m glad you did too. Thanks, Jodi.
