Written for Cinquain Poetry Prompt #28.
Our inspiration word is “survive”.
This is my mirror cinquain.

Survive
To press through storms
To find strength in the dark
To stay when the world says let go
Hold on
Be strong
Endure the weight, the mighty fight
Until dawn breaks through night
When you can stand
Again

Sweet, sweet, sweetness, and more, in music & cinquain. Somethin’ about Jerry’s voice…

Thanks so much, Liz, and I know exactly what you mean about Gerry’s voice.

There’s a quiet power in these lines—like a lantern flickering but never going out. Your words capture that holy stubbornness of the soul, the kind that refuses to let the night have the final say. It reminds me that even in the darkest places, God whispers, “Fear not… I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee” (Isaiah 41:10). And sometimes surviving is itself an act of faith, a testimony that dawn will break, and by His grace, we will stand again.

Thank you for your very gracious comments, Kimberly. It was very comforting to read the Bible verses you included and I thank you for that as well. Blessings and peace with you during the coming Christmas season.

Beautiful Nancy. This song was one of my Mum’s favourites and it was played at her funeral as we all paid our final respects after the service. I sang my heart out.

Thanks so much, dear Keith. You probably hear Gerry and the Pacemakers more frequently than I do because of the Liverpool football games. I loved being able to share them with everyone today.

Jerry Lewis used to sing this song at the end of his Labor Day Muscular Dystrophy Telethon (years and years ago). He would always break down before he got to the end of this song. Such a hopeful, inspirational song.

Lois, I am really impressed that you know about Jerry Lewis and his very great work with muscular dystrophy. Many people think he was just a clown, but he was a talented singer and had a wonderful heart. I know how Jerry felt; when I sang with my church choir, there were certain hymns I could barely get through because they were so moving. Thank you for reminding me of this.

Very empowering both your verse and your song choice.

Beautiful Nancy especially as you choose the wonderful song by Gerry – it’s a favourite in our household as it’s the song always sung at Liverpool’s football matches – the team we support ⚽️🙌
