Written for Sunday Whirl Wordle – #733. Our host
is Brenda Warren and these are our prompt words:
thistles, horns, stiff, treat, wee, chirping, fit,
down, stick, blushing, out, and moment.
Here’s where the prompts took me.

The honking horns from the downtown traffic were nothing compared to the startling sound of shattering glass as Britt dropped a box of crystal stemware. Scared stiff, she and Kevin stared as a massive Burmese mountain dog crashed through the front door of their brand new ground-floor apartment chasing a wee baby squirrel.
Waving a broomstick like a whirling dervish, Kevin shouted “SCRAM!! Get out!”at the uninvited furry guests.
“No, Kevin! Please don’t treat them like that!” Britt pulled at Kevin’s arm. “They’re scared!”
“They’re not the only ones!” Kevin gasped, blushing and breathless from exertion. “I sure wasn’t expecting an animal free-for-all in our new apartment. What a mess!”
The squirrel raced around the living room, chirping crazily, as the huge dog bounded after it. Finally, in a last ditch attempt to escape, the squirrel hopped onto the windowsill, squeezed through the tight fit of the slightly open window and jumped into the thistle bushes.
The dog growled and scratched furiously at the window, but the squirrel was long gone. Then, as suddenly as he arrived, the Burmese mountain dog turned and bolted back out the front door.
Kevin and Britt stood in the middle of their wrecked apartment, holding each other tightly.
“Welcome home, babe” Kevin whispered.
That moment …. critter chaos, shattered glass, and all …. would become their favorite moving day story for years to come.

Sometimes shared chaos is the best sign of all!

Yes indeed! I’m much preferred shared chaos over solo chaos.

It would be a good story after the shock has worn off.

The first thing they have to remember is to keep their front door closed and locked! 🤣

Now that is a move in to remember! Thank goodness it is fiction. Perfect song, of course.

Moving is stressful enough. I had a Burmese mountain dog knocked me down once; his paw was bigger than my head! Pretty freakin’ frightening.
Such a fun song! Thanks, Dale.

Perfect ending, and so true. People worry about perfection, but it’s all the glitches, big and small, that make up the stories we remember and love to tell!

So true, D. And after all this time, we have a lot of stories! Thanks for your comments.

Your story reminded me of the Chevy Chase movie Christmas Vacation where there was a squirrel running around the house. Very funny moving experience, Nancy.

That’s right! That movie scene must have been lying dormant somewhere in my subconscious. Those movies are hilarious! Thanks, Jim; I’m glad you enjoyed my story.

They say moving is one of the most stressful things we do – that one was on another level!

That sounds about right, which would explain why we haven’t moved in 45 years! Thank you, dear Keith. I’m glad you enjoyed my story.

Meanwhile, down here in Aussieland, Frankie is asleep on my bed, too tired to even chase rabbits in his doggie dreamworld, 😊🌏🐶

We have possums, which get in the ceiling and make a hell of a racket
