Today at RDP, drkottaway asks us to get
creative with the word ‘quit’. Thanks, Doc!
Here’s where the prompt word took me.

Maintaining The Peace
This is a true story. My Uncle Paolo was a member of the Polizia di Stato, the national police force of Italy and Sicily. He was proud of his position on the force, a job he had for about two years prior to getting married. His girlfriend, Enza, was the worrisome sort and kept pleading with him to quit his job …. something my uncle was unwilling to do. A few months into their marriage, Enza became pregnant and was even more worried about her husband’s safety as a cop. Uncle Paolo tried to convince Enza not to worry; all his time with the police force, he never faced anything dangerous and never had to discharge his gun. After their baby was born, Enza begged Paolo to quit the force; for his wife’s peace of mind and for their new baby, he reluctantly agreed. Having been a barber before becoming a cop, Uncle Paolo got a job in the local barbershop. The first day at his new job, a jealous husband with a vendetta against Paolo’s boss barged into the shop and shot the boss dead. He then turned the gun on my Uncle Paolo and shot him. Fortunately, Paolo only sustained an injury to his shoulder. After he was fully recuperated, Uncle Paolo rejoined the police force and Enza never complained about his job again.

What an incredible story! Truth is stranger than fiction, or in this case a serendipitous outcome. Glad he was ok!

I remember how much my father loved telling people this story about his older brother. It really is an amazing tale. Thank you, Michele.

I kept think Zio Paolo was gonna get killed outside of the polizia… So very glad he survived that gunshot! The irony of life is ridiculous!

You are so right, Jim. It’s ironic …. an incredible story about my father’s eldest brother who chose to stay in Sicily instead of coming to the US.

Thank you, my dear friend. There are a lot of vendettas in Sicily, especially involving jealous husbands! I’m sure my uncle’s wife was very happy to have him back in a safe job like the police department lol 😂 👮♂️

Haha, fancy the police job being safer than being a barber 💈😍🌏😎

It really is something else and it’s all true! That, however, is not my uncle; the events in my story happened when I was a child so Uncle Paolo is long gone. I thought the fellow in that picture had a nice face and he reminds me of my father! Thanks, Ange.
