Written for MLMM Monday Wordle #451.
Our prompt words this week are: banish,
sad, guilty, weak, push, cute, way, cheeky,
sweet, furry, trick, and battle. Thanks, Di!
Here’s where the prompt words took me.

Wes felt guilty as his parents read him the riot act. Harry, the cute, furry Goldendoodle, whimpered at their feet. He had been so happy and sweet when they first brought him home; now he looked sad and neglected.
“You begged us for months!” Wes’ mother said firmly. “You promised you’d walk Harry, feed him, groom him. Instead, you push every responsibility back onto us.”
“You even tried to trick us by saying you walked Harry and brushed him while we were at the store,” his father added, disappointed.
Wes’ weak excuses crumbled under his parents stern gazes. He knew he lost the battle because of his own laziness.
“You let us down, Wes, and you treated Harry unfairly. If your cheeky attitude doesn’t change immediately,” his mother warned, “we will banish screen time completely until you prove yourself.”
Wes looked at Harry’s trusting eyes and felt ashamed. There was only one way to redeem himself: he had to make this right.

My sister bought her spoiled-brat daughter two dogs, but she wound up sending them back because she was too lazy to care for them. I know this story well.

Too bad we can’t send some of our family members back and keep our pets!

I liked my little dog, Winnie, much more than some folks I know.

Happening in households all over… the promises of kids that they will for sure take care of the dog… Uh huh… 😉 Nicely done.

That’s for sure! Absolutely nothing my mother would let me get away with. Thank you, darlin’!

When accountability is paired with love for the creature being harmed. ❤️
And I love the song…swoon!

I am a big believer in accountability, Liz. It’s the best way to learn.

That was one of his big pop hits in his early career. It was great to hear him doing it in the acoustic setting with Alun Davies, his trusty sidekick.

I think Wes will make it right, he just needs a chance. A familiar sounding slice of life and a wonderful fit for the photo, Nancy! 😊

Thanks very much, Brenda. This is a huge responsibility and learning experience for kids; sometimes it takes a couple of attempts before they get it right.

Oh Wes, you naughty boy, all you have to do is love and look after your Doggie, and unconditionally he’ll love you, twice as much back … get off your selfish lazy, butt, and tend to handsome Harry’s simple and uncomplicated needs …
— oh, I can’t do any betterer than Cat Steven’s lovely song, Nancy

Love this Nancy it reminded me of our conversation with our daughter who pestered for a dog and she would do everything- when all she did was play with him 😃
PS love Cat Stevens 🩷

Don’t you think most kids are like that, Ange? I certainly do. It’s a huge learning experience, taking care of dogs, but they give so much love in return.
I adore Cat Stevens. I had the distinct pleasure of meeting him at a party back in 1973. We spoke for about 15 minutes and he was delightful – a beautiful man, inside and out. That’s a day I will always remember.

So relatable. The number of times I’ve heard people angry that their dog isn’t house trained, socialised or lead trained, then it turns out they thought because the parent dogs were, it was hereditary!
Thanks for joining in Nancy. How’s the wrist bearing up?

How could people be so ignorant to think something like that? Sounds like a flimsy excuse to me.
My hand hurts, Di, but it’s only been two days so that’s normal. A little bit at a time. Thank goodness for this dictation app!

Have they given you painkillers? Glad you have a technical helper!

Yes, they have, Di. With the combination of Advil and Tylenol, I only need one painkiller in the morning. That lasts all day and hopefully I’ll be able to stop taking it very soon.
