Today at RDP, Martha has asked us to share a story,
poem, photo, painting, essay, etc., focusing on
the word ‘fancy’. Thanks, Martha! Here’s my take.

My name is Nancy …. not Nan and definitely NOT NANNY. If you really want to see my Sicilian come out, try calling me Nanny. My very dear friends and those I’m super-comfortable with call me Nance; I like that and I smile when it happens out of the blue. That’s how I know someone really likes me and feels at ease with me. Some friends also call me Lil and I’m happy with that, too. Years ago, I worked with a guy who always called me “Fancy Nancy” and he said it in a sing-song kinda way. I hated it and he knew I hated it but kept doing it. Soon I started to hate him. I probably should have ignored him but that’s hard to do when it’s in your face like that, ya know? As the Beatles said, “Her name was Magill and she called herself Lil but everyone knew her as Nancy”. Not “Fancy Nancy” and definitely not Nanny. We good? OK.

Nancy’s Notes: If you’re stuck for a gift for a special person, try Me Fragrance online where you can get personalized fragrances. Bill surprised me with a perfume for Christmas called “Lil”. He scored big time brownie points for that!

I would definitely be one of your Nance girls.

A Nancy by any other name would smell as sweet!
I get called Keef or Keefie quite often but there’s not much else can be done with my name, fortunately!

We hear Keef a lot for guys named Keith but predominantly in the UK. As long as you’re comfortable with it, then it’s ok. My dad liked to say “You can call me anything you want; just don’t call me late for dinner!” 😂

I loved your rant Nancy – I can relate completely I can’t abide being called Angie it really grates and like you, when I meet people they naturally call me Angela which is fine, but on that rare occasion a person comes right out with ‘Ange’ and I know right then we will properly connect – odd isn’t it. PS love the Beatles track – it’s not often heard so thanks 😊

You nailed it, Ange! I can see how/why you’d agree with me. Angela is a beautiful name but Angie makes me think of my late Aunt Angie who always wore a stained housecoat and rolled-down stockings! I’ll never make that mistake with you! I don’t know why it’s so difficult for people to understand.
Isn’t that video fun? So glad you enjoyed it! Thank you, Ange!
