Today at RDP, we are asked to share a story,
poem, photo, painting, essay, etc., focusing
on the word ‘pet’. Here’s my take.

Our youngest son, his wife and 5-year-old daughter have 4 pet cats …. rescues from the Humane Society. They’re all black and extremely difficult to tell apart. When they’re running around the house, it’s impossible to distinguish one from the other. For my son and his little family, it’s easy to tell them apart: Galaxy has white fur inside his ears, Raven is a petite female kitty with perfectly round eyes, Phantom has a wonky head and crooked left ear, and Midnight has just one eye. The only one Bill and I can positively ID without question is Midnight!
Sweet little Raven was a resident of the Humane Society for less than one day before our son’s family adopted her. On the other side of the spectrum and almost impossible to believe is Galaxy, who spent the first four years of his life at the Humane Society. He is the sweetest, most affectionate kitty and we assume the only reason he wasn’t adopted immediately is the superstition surrounding black cats. We love black cats! Midnight and Phantom were overlooked for many months because of their physical wonkiness; seems people only want a perfect pet!

Lovely photos, and lovely names for the kitties.

Thanks, Di. The shelter people had given the kitties different names such as Gino and Ophelia, which are nice but my son & his wife were going for a certain theme. I love the names they chose!

Maya was called Pappy ( as were all pups) but we shortened her KC name.

They are so sweet Nancy 😺 Our black cat, Benny, was also known as the Jackadgery Panther. He was very big, powerful and boss of the street, even dogs were scared of him.

Ah, sounds like you’re an Aussie, Very cool! I’m fascinated by Australia and wish we had a chance to visit before I turned into an old bat! 😂
Benny sounds most intriguing; are you sure he really wasn’t a mini panther? 😄 🐈⬛

Thanks very much, Ange! They really are sweet and don’t deserve the bad rap. It’s the same way for pit bulls, too.

Thanks, Destiny. They tried different color collars but they kept falling off! Our granddaughter chose their night sky related names.

it’s sort of cosy, personal like(makes sense lol?) , the way only they can tell them apart…
Nancy, with names as such, a ” writer ” comes to mind…maybe she’ll be following you…
my pleasure…🤍

They’re so sweet. I’ve had cats from rescue centres all my life. I once had a gorgeous black cat called Joe.

Love the kitty photos! How wonderful they found a forever home with your son & family. My daughter and family always adopts from a shelter or cat cafe, and they have a 3 legged cat now that’s been with them for a few years. We don’t have any right now, but we did have black cats in the past. All cats are beautiful. 🙂

Thanks for sharing your story, Barbara. We’ve always been cat people. We were trying to count how many cats we’ve had since we’ve been married; we started reciting their names and got up to 14! We have one kitty right now; we went 12 years without one after our sweet Max died and adopted Lucy 9 years ago.

We do and whenever my son and family are away, we’re the ones who go over to care for the kitties. They’re all very sweet.

How lucky for the kitties, that your son and his family rescued them! Now they have a good life, where they are very loved!

Thanks, CA! They are loved and also happy as can be! Raven and Midnight are the two youngest kitties and are best friends. They play together all day. Galaxy and Phantom are a bit older and more laid back. They’re all very sweet and loving kitties. ♡
