Written for Thursday Inspiration #302 –
“Right Place, Wrong Time”.
Here’s my inspirational response.

For this week’s Thursday Inspiration prompt, Jim Adams asks us to respond to the challenge by using the prompt word ‘time’, referring to the song “Right Place, Wrong Time” by Dr. John or another one of his songs, or by anything else we feel fits.
I’ve chosen a musical response today … a song from 1966 called “Time Won’t Let Me” by The Outsiders, a Cleveland-based group. The song’s success was a breakthrough for the group, reaching #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. It is notable for its unique blend of Merseybeat and Motown influences and its driving arrangement, which includes a great horn section. “Time Won’t Let Me” tells the age old story of a guy who doesn’t want to wait forever for his love who keeps putting him off. He wants some type of commitment from her but it sounds like she isn’t ready. It also sounds like the guy feels like his girl is just stringing him along. The lyrics express a sense of urgency and longing as the narrator pleads for more time with someone special, making it a relatable anthem for young love and the feeling of being rushed or cut off from what you want.

LYRICS
I can’t wait forever
Even though you want me to
I can’t wait forever
To know if you’ll be true
Time won’t let me
Time won’t let me
Time won’t let me wait too long
Can’t you see I’ve waited too long to love you
To hold you in my arms
Time won’t let me
Time won’t let me
Time won’t let me aw
Oh
I can’t wait forever
Even though you want me to
I can’t wait forever
To know if you’ll be true
Time won’t let me
Time won’t let me
Time won’t let me wait that long
It won’t let me wait that long
(Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait that long)
(Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait that long)
(Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait that long)
(Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait that long)
(Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait that long)
(Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait that long)
(Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait that long)

Everyone from outside the US has said the same thing! Clearly, this was only a hit here in The States. I’m glad to know you enjoyed the song, Ange. Thanks!

Great choice, Nancy as I had completely forgotten about this gem. It is too bad that their first hit song was never equaled, as this was a really nice tune.

Being originally from the Cleveland area- I was surprised to find out this band was based there- as I know of them and certainly know the song but had never heard that bit about them. Thank you!

A new one for me. Very much of its time and so were the hairstyles. I especially liked the one wearing a rabbit on his head.

😂 It’s a common mistake people make, thinking these guys were from your side of the pond. They definitely had that same type of sound.

I don’t think many here would make that mistake – never heard of them!
