Mini Story

RDP Tuesday: reptilian

Today at RDP, we are asked to share a story,
poem, photo, painting, essay, etc., focusing
on the word ‘reptilian
. Here’s my take.

This morning, as I gazed out my rear window sipping my freshly ground Colombian beans, I chuckled as the chipmunks and squirrels playfully raced around the yard. The little guys always seem to be having so much fun. But as I watched, one of the critters looked oddly different and I did a double take when I realized it was actually running around on its two back legs! I reached for my binoculars for a better look and gasped at what I saw. This new visitor to my backyard was not a cute, furry creature; no, it had a definite reptilian look. In fact, it resembled a mini Godzilla! Was I dreaming? Was something in my coffee causing hallucinations? Just then I heard sounds of loud thumping and the house started vibrating. An angry roar convinced me all was not right in my peaceful neighborhood this morning. And that’s when I saw it …. Mama Godzilla looming over my arborvitae, no doubt searching for her baby! Grabbing my phone and keys, I made a mad dash for my car. Time to get out of Dodge! I saw the approaching helicopters as I was pulling out of my driveway. I sure hope I can get far enough away before things get ugly!
