Written for dVerse Poetics: Let’s Take A Walk
In The Woods, Shall We? Our host Lillian asks us
to write a poem about the woods. This is my poem.

Sunlight paints the leaves,
golden rays scattered
on a floor of green velvet.
The path, a ribbon
unfurling slow,
leading deeper.
Birdsong stitches
the silence,
a quiet hum of life.
Each step a soft crush
of fallen needles,
earth breathing beneath my feet.

“birdsong stitches/the silence…” Cool verb choice, it evokes the movement of the birds as much as the sound.

So beautifully described, Nancy, … you could feel the Bracken beneath your feet, … as you stare towards the fingers of light shining its way through the trees, … brilliant !! …💙

Oh Penny, we all have those nights when the slightest upsets get us going. That was me yesterday, just not a great day. Sending big hugs your way. You’re never alone, luv. 🫶🏼💙

A stunning forest poem, Nancy. I love the use of light and colour, the birdsong stitching the silence, and the palpable ‘earth breathing beneath my feet’.

Thanks, dear Ivor. Sometimes when I’m listening to the radio, I’ll hear a phrase that I particularly like and I’ll make a note of it. That’s where those lines originated; I reworked them to fit the cadence of my poem. I appreciate you referencing those lines, dear friend. 🥰
