In an effort to reduce the amount of email I get, I asked WordPress what I needed to do to stop receiving likes notifications. I still want to receive notifications when someone comments on my post or publishes a new post on their own site. After four days, WordPress finally got back to me with instructions on how to stop likes email notifications. This morning when I fired up my Mac, I had three emails as opposed to my usual 103! Ok, something is not right. Instead of just eliminating likes notifications, none of my WordPress email notifications are coming through. I tried reversing the settings to the way they were before changing them per WordPress’ instructions; that did nothing. I logged out, turned off the Mac and rebooted. No change. I’m being held hostage by WordPress and I don’t like it!

My apologies to YOU as my likes and comments on your posts are not coming through as usual. I hope all will be resolved after another few conversations with WordPress. In the meantime, I’ll be working through Reader which is not my preferred method.

  5. Oh I feel your pain Nancy. I cannot get to a happy place. I too, do not like Reader and rarely use it. It is user un-friendly! I feel like I am either bombarded with emails because I am not turning off the email notifications or I am turning them all on by mistake. I cannot get to where I want to be 😕

    1. Thanks for your empathy, Christine; I know where you’re coming from. Wanting to control the email notifications I receive should be my decision and something I can easily do. The way WP has things configured, it’s very difficult to know if changing the settings has been done correctly. Now, instead of not receiving email notifications for likes, I’m not receiving any email notifications! A few have dribbled in this evening; I hope that’s a good sign but I’m not holding my breath.

      1. Yes for some reason it is difficult to find the place where you control that. I have always stumbled upon it and then I never remember how I got there. Then again were they in two different places? Ugh! Should be easier than this 😕. Good luck !

        1. Well, I’m here and all seems well. It makes me feel like I’m better off not getting the engineers at WP involved; it always strikes me like two steps forward, one step back. Thanks for your good wishes, Christine.

  11. I hope they sort it out soon, as it really shouldn’t be that difficult! I only ever use the Reader as a last resort, as it doesn’t count as a page view and I like to leave my mark even if I don’t ‘like’ or comment on a post.

  15. Ahh, ..the WordPress dilemma, …chains describe it so clearly, Nancy, …and no problemo, …I’m always checking reader, …and the extra links I’ve added, …🎶singing along to the Beatles🎶… catch you later alligator, …(I have no idea where that came from 😉)…💙
