Weird Al Wednesday -4.23.25

Hey! Welcome back to Weird Al Wednesday
featuring the comedic genius of Al Yankovic.
“Say, Al! Today we’re doing something a bit
different! We’re featuring only one video by you –

a ‘pastiche’, not a parody. Do you think our
weirdos at home are ready for this?”

Pastiche (noun): an artistic work in a style that imitates that of another work, artist, or period
Pastiche (verb): to imitate the style of (an artist or work)

In this Doors pastiche, Al pulls on his leather pants and channels Mr. Mojo Risin’ (aka Jim Morrison) to take on the strange psychedelic wonderland that is Craigslist. The 2009 video was made on a pretty low budget and was shot in director Liam Lynch’s garage in front of a green screen. The late keyboardist for the doors, the great Ray Manzarek, was brought on to recreate their sound.

This is “Craigslist” by Weird Al

LYRICS

Whoa, yeah!

You’ve got a ’65 Chevy Malibu
With automatic drive
A custom paint job, too

I’ll trade you for my old wheelbarrow
And a slightly used sombrero
And I’ll even throw in a stapler, if you insist

Craigslist!
I’m on Craiglist, baby, come on!
Yeah

Well, we shared a quick glance
Saturday at the mall
I never took a chance
Never approached you at all

You were a blonde half-Asian with a bad case of gas
I was wearin’ red Speedos and a hockey mask
Come on, let’s find that love connection that we missed

On Craigslist!
Yeah, Craigslist, come on!
I’m on Craigslist
Oh, baby, maybe you are too!
Be bom ba chomb cadonk bin bam boo!

An open letter to the snotty barista
At the Coffee Bean on San Vacente Boulevard:
I know there were twenty people behind me in line
But I was on a cell phone call with my mother
Didn’t you see me hold up my index finger?
That means, “I’ll order my soy decaf hazelnut latte in just a couple minutes”
So, what’s with the attitude, lady?
No tip for you!

Got a trash can of Styrofoam peanuts
You can have ’em for free
You can drop by on the weekend
And pick ’em up from me
But the trash can ain’t part of the deal
Only givin’ you the peanuts
Get real!
Don’t have no Hefty bag, so bring your own
Don’t bug me with questions on the phone
Don’t ask for help, don’t waste my time
And don’t complain, ’cause they won’t cost you a dime
Just ask yourself:
Do you want my Styrofoam peanuts?
You can have my Styrofoam peanuts
Do you want my Styrofoam peanuts?
You can have them all

They’re on Craigslist, yeah!
Craigslist!
Ow, baby, come on!
I’m on Craigslist, Craigslist, Craigslist!
I’m on Craigslist, Craigslist, Craigslist, now

Craigslist!

Thanks for joining me this week and every week as we celebrate the weirdness that is Weird Al Yankovic. I hope you’re still having as much fun as I am because the last thing I want is for this thing to get ‘weird’.

And remember what I like to say …. It’s good to laugh!

That’s all she wrote, kids. See you on the flip side. 😎

  1. I have one word for you, Nancy: Incredible!

It’s yet another example of Weird Al’s impressive talent. He does a great job channeling Jim Morrison – even a monologue! It’s also cool Ray Manzarek was involved. The music really sounds like The Doors!

Okay, I guess this was more than one word! 😁

    1. Al’s a talented, funny and creative guy and none of that comes from sheer luck. He’s obviously a very hard worker and giving his best to his fans is paramount. It takes dedication and practice to be as good at your craft as Al is. He channeled Jim Morrison so well, at times I forgot I wasn’t watching Jim. So glad to know you enjoyed today’s ‘incredible’ performance. Thank you, Christian!

    1. Esther, I wish you could see the smile on my face right now! 😁
I love Al but what’s more is the kick I get knowing other people are loving Al, too …. many who were unaware of him before I started this series. Sharing music with enthusiastic readers and friends is just one of the bonuses of writing a music blog. You have made my day with your fantastic comments; thanks so much! Enjoy the music and Al … both of you! 🎶👥♡
