Making The Climb: An Ovi

Written for Ovi Poetry Challenge #96.
This week’s inspiration word is
“strength”. Keeping with the year’s
theme of positivity, this is my Ovi.

We share our tales of growing old
Of bones, once strong, a fortress bold
Now creak and groan, a story told
We listen

Of youthful leaps and joyous dance
A silent ache, a weary trance
Oft times afraid to take a chance
We comfort

Outstretched hands, once swift and free,
Inward sighs, a whispered plea
Now burdened by a malady
We soothe

Vibrant hues of life’s bright dawn
Now faded shades, a weary yawn
The closing of a curtain, drawn
We reflect

Outward signs of time’s harsh hand
A weary heart, a troubled land
The constant change of shifting sand
We grow

The joints, once supple, now inflamed
A symphony of pain proclaimed
Having played, called us by name
We feel

Memories, a tender grace
A lifetime’s journey, time and space
Pain’s presence clear upon the face
We endure

Never yield, though pain may rise,
And tears may tumble from our eyes
Enduring life through ragged sighs
We reach

Inward strength, the spirit’s fire
To conquer pain, reaching higher
Being whole, life’s deep desire.
We live

Out of the darkness, light will bloom
To lead us safely from the gloom
A quiet strength, a whispered room
We soar
