STEVIE NICKS – Stephanie Lynn Nicks was born on May 26, 1948 in Phoenix, Arizona. The tight-knit Nicks clan included the future singer’s parents …. Barbara, a homemaker and Jess, a vice president at Greyhound …. and paternal grandfather, Aaron Jess Nicks, a would-be country star. Aaron handcrafted a guitar for young Stevie and taught her well-known selections from the country music canon. By the time she was 5 years old, Stevie was gigging with him at local gin mills. Due to her father’s busy corporate job, Nicks’ family relocated frequently, finally settling in Palo Alto, California where Stevie attended high school and met classmate Lindsey Buckingham, a guitarist and fellow songwriter. The two shared a close bond and forged a strong musical and romantic relationship. After graduation, the couple soon landed a contract with Polydor Records and in 1972 released Buckingham-Nicks, an album that went largely unnoticed. Concurrently, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Christine McVie of the rock group Fleetwood Mac started seeking out a new recording facility and arranged a visit at the same studio where Nicks and Buckingham recorded their album. During a tour of the facility, a Buckingham-Nicks track happened to be playing; the band was taken with Buckingham’s guitar prowess. In need of a guitarist, Mick Fleetwood arranged a meeting with Buckingham and asked him to join the band, but he refused unless his girlfriend Stevie was included as part of the deal. Fleetwood agreed and in 1975, Nicks and Buckingham signed on to Fleetwood Mac. The newly forged band quickly recorded an eponymous collection that sold 500,000 copies by December 1975 and went on to hit #1 on the Billboard 200 chart the next fall. Nicks’ tracks were smash hits and transformed the singer into a sensation. After the success of Rumours, the band continued to put out albums but Nicks felt the draw toward solo work. In 1981, she released Bella Donna; the album almost immediately reached #1 on the Billboard 200 and featured the hit single “Edge of Seventeen”. The lyrics were written by Nicks to express the grief resulting from the death of her uncle Jonathan and the murder of John Lennon during the same week of December 1980. The song’s title for the single release was “Edge of Seventeen (Just Like the White Winged Dove)”. In the US, the song peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has become one of Nicks’ most enduring and recognizable songs. In 2021, it was ranked #217 on Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Stevie Nicks is the first woman twice inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Your favorite. Hmm….. something tells me it won’t be but I think you’ll still enjoy what I chose. Time will tell!

Sonia, you have just made my day! One of my great joys is introducing new artists and music to my WordPress friends. May I ask where you are located? I hope you enjoyed listening to Stevie Nicks; perhaps you’ll check out another video or two on YouTube along with her former group, Fleetwood Mac. Enjoy your musical experience, Sonia, and thank you for stopping by for a look and a listen.

Great to learn the history/ chronology of the group’s formation. I’m also a fan of early Fleetwood Mac, with their songs “Hypnotized” and “Oh Well.”

To be honest, Nicks was not my original choice for this slot but the more I thought about it, the more I realized she belonged here. Since making the change to my lineup, Stevie/Fleetwood Mac have sprung out of my car radio a total of 7 times in the last 2 days …. I kid you not. I’m taking that as a nod of approval for my change in lineup! Thanks, Liz.

And the days go by like a strand in the wind. I absolutely love this song, Nancy great choice for today. Stevie Nicks has some really poetic lyrics and nothing else mattered.

As I was telling Liz, Stevie Nicks was not my original choice for the Letter N. I don’t know what I was thinking but I’m glad I came to my senses and made the change on Sunday. She definitely belongs in my challenge. Thanks much, Jim.

Lots of background I didn’t know! I probably would have liked this song more if I hadn’t glanced up and noticed it is spitting snow outside! Ugh.

And there’s lots I left out, just for the sake of brevity. Come back and watch again when the snow stops; it’s such a fantastic piece. Merci, mon amie!

I will, just to be fair! It’s still spitting, although it has been 40 degrees all day long! One of those high atmosphere upsets.

Much like me, it’s been threatening to do something here all day, but nothing has materialized. 😅

Oh, us old guys have always loved Stevie Nicks … and talking about “Nick’s”, here in Aussieland we have the amazing “Nick Cave” … who has written thousands of songs, but funnily enough, his cover of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Avalanche’ is one of my favourites, Nancy …

Stevie Nicks is a sweet delight, for sure …. something I knew my WordPress guys (and girls) would appreciate! Thanks for that affirmation, dear Ivor!
I’ve been waiting with baited breath to see how you chose to soundtrack my post today. You did not disappoint! This is an incredibly moving song by Nick Cave. I’ve heard it before and am happily hearing it again. Thank you, amico mio! I love it! 🖤🎶

Thanks for the background info, Nancy, ..it’s an amazing thing, how much a family combines to create a musical basis to such a unique and talented singer/musician… my brother loves Fleetwood Mac, …and is it truly that long ago? The death of John Lennon, … strewth, 💫🦋💫

Penn, that question …. “Is it truly that long ago?” …. has become an every day inquiry in this house! The passage of time is impossible to grasp. 71.6% of my life has been spent with my husband! WHAT?!?! I barely remember a time without him. And Lennon? Like yesterday. Thank you, Penn. I truly appreciate the little thinking buds you plant in my brain! 🌱

🎶Yesterday, all my troubles …🎶… 🎶 I read the news today oh boy,…🎶… life is impossible without a word or three (😉) reminding us about songs, singers, … and without Lennons influence what a sad world this would be, … ah Nancy, …you set my music buds working,… so it’s a two way street, … thank you my friend, ..💫🌱💫
