Weird Al Wednesday – 3.19.25

Hey! Welcome back to Weird Al Wednesday
featuring the comedic genius of Al Yankovic
“Say, Al! I thought I’d feature you doing a solo
number today and showing off your amazing
vocal chops. What do you think about that?”

Ok, my wonderful weirdos, I’m veering off track a bit and trying something a little different. Al’s video today isn’t his usual parody of a particular song, but I think you’ll find it just as entertaining. But first, if you haven’t seen Weird Al’s cameo in the first The Naked Gun movie with Leslie Nielsendo that now.

You back? Ok, cool.

Spy Hard is Al’s third movie theme and reunites him with Leslie Nielsen; Al wrote the theme song and produced the movie. You gotta love the hilarious antics and mindless entertainment of flicks like Spy Hard, with characters named General Rancor and Dick Steele. And let’s not forget Ray Charles playing the preposterous role of the bus driver! Classic! Today’s video plays during the opening credits for Spy Hard and parodies James Bond title sequences, specifically the one from Thunderball. According to Tom Jones, while recording the theme for Thunderball, he held the last note so long, he passed out. Here, Al’s head explodes. Who says singing isn’t a dangerous profession?

This is “Spy Hard” by Weird Al Yankovic. Pay attention to the hilarity in the background.

LYRICS

A man of intrigue, he lives for the thrill
Always has places to go, and people to kill
Danger is the game he plays, and he holds every card
‘Cause if you wanna win, you gotta spy hard

A man of the world, so suave and discrete
He trips over the women piled up at his feet
But evil’s lurking, so he’s always on his guard
‘Cause if you’re gonna spy, you better spy hard

He’s always there, when the chips are beginning to fall
He wouldn’t care, if they kicked him and grabbed him
And shot him and stabbed him
And nailed both his ears to the wall

Facing death every day is a tough job for any man
But his hours are flexible, and he’s got a great dental plan
By the way, if you walked in late,
Allow me to reiterate:
The name of this movie is Spy Hard
They call it Spy Hard
You’re watching Spy Hard
It’s the theme from Spy Haaaaaaaaaaaard!

Songwriter: Al Yankovic
Producer: Al Yankovic

Thanks to you all for coming back each Wednesday; are you having fun yet? Come on back next time when we can embrace the weirdness.

And remember what I like to say …. it’s good to laugh!

That’s all she wrote. See you on the flip side. 😎

    1. You have no idea how happy I am that you used the word “funny”! It has been my goal since I started this post in January to bring funny, clever, and entertaining videos to my reader friends; it’s incredibly rewarding to know I’m doing exactly that! Thanks so much, Christian!

      1. I looked it up after leaving my comment: it’s on Disney+ and is now on my watchlist.

I love the Airplane and Naked Gun movies – so much going on in the background to enjoy, like the Hare Krishna guys having a fight. Mel Brooks is a genius, and Blazing Saddles is still a favourite.

        1. What’s so great about these movies …. besides the obvious hilarity …. is the fact that many of the actors are not comedians. It’s farce, often with the joke on themselves (take Ray Charles driving a bus!) but they get the humor in it and don’t take offense. Seeing Robert Stack (not known for his shitz & giggles comedic performances) taking down the Hare Krishna guys in the airport is a classic! My favorite in the Naked Gun movies is the baseball scene. That had me in stitches!
