Written for dVerse Poetics – “Art In Nature”
where the challenge is to write a poem in
response to one of the featured photos.
I have chosen to write a Dectina Refrain
for the photo which appears below.

What
do your
eyes espy,
Sir Butterfly?
A bee buzzing by?
Watching all around you
with your four eyes, or just two?
I wonder if your mother said
she had eyes in the back of her head!
What do your eyes espy, Sir Butterfly?

Thanks, Lisa! ☺️
When my mother would yell from another room “I’ve got eyes in the back of my head”, I was scared to death and it was anything but light-hearted! 😂

You’re welcome, and sorry if you lived in fear as a child.

You’re very welcome and thank you for the smile… with a third eye/infinity tattoo in between my daughter’s shoulders, she does have an eye in the back of her head. I teased her with that mom joke when she got it. Not sure that was the goal, when she designed it. 🤔 Thank you and a lovely weekend to you! 🌼

Lovely mother/daughter story, Michele; thanks for the share. My mother was a pro at pitching that quote in my direction and she did so many times. 😊

Oh, you mean back to the days of my mother yelling at me from the other room to stop doing whatever I was doing when she couldn’t even see me and, at the perfect moment, as if she was reading my mind, she’d shout “I have eyes in the back of my head!” Is that what you were referring to? 😂
Thanks so much! 😊

I haven’t heard that song in years and yet I remembered all the lyrics. It must have played and played on the air!

There was a time when this song was on all the time. I listened to a lot of butterfly songs and kept coming back to this one. It’s such a pretty melody. 🎶

Clever and fun! I especially love the line about mother saying she had eyes in the back of her head. I’ve said it to my kids once or twice.😉

Mothers everywhere have, I’m willing to wager …. maybe even animal and insect moms! Who’s to say? 💁🏼♀️
This was great fun, Melissa; thanks for the prompt idea. 😊
