Just when I thought WordPress had gotten better with its problem solving, I’m proven wrong.
Lately I’m having difficulty commenting on other blogger’s posts …. not all but a lot. In fact, last night I was having problems with most of my comments on your posts. When I’m commenting on someone’s post, everything is fine until I push “REPLY”. Once I do that, I cannot see the comment I just typed. I used to be able to see all the comments I left on other blogger’s posts. Not anymore.
I contacted WP; this is the advice they gave me. 1) Check to see that my account status is in good standing; 2) Make sure I’m logged into my WP account; 3) Other site owners may have made changes to their comments settings; 4) Clear my browser cache; 5) Try contacting Akismet.
As far as I know, my account is in good standing; I have not received any emails or notifications regarding my account. Of course I am logged into my account! I never log out. I have no way of knowing if other bloggers have changed their comments settings. Clearing my browser is a catch-all solution WordPress uses all the time. It does nothing. Not sure how to contact Akismet; another thing to look into.
My friends, I am commenting on your posts; I don’t want you to think I’m not. But just because I can’t see my comments doesn’t mean you can’t. Maybe they’re going to spam. Can you please let me know if you’re receiving my comments on your posts? You know who you are …. the people whose posts I comment on almost daily. I know what I’m asking is a pain in the ass as you all have other things to do but I’d appreciate a quick reply if you can.
Thanks so much for helping me out!

You’re right, Nancy, I have started receiving your comments in spam. I have to retrieve and then respond. WP seems to have no solution.

That is unfortunate, KK. Sadly, I have no solution either!

Sorry to read you’re having so many frustrating issues. You know about mine, too. I checked my spam folder. Nada. Though that is always subject to change and good to stay on top of. On a happy note, you’ve chosen a fitting tune. 🎶

Thanks, Michele. Too many of us are rattled by WP problems. 😎

Yes, and with all the frustrations with comments, I sometimes think, why bother and yet I do because I enjoy supporting and connecting with others in this space. We do our best. 💃🏻

I have been facing a similar issue, Nancy. It is very frustrating. I can totally relate and understand.
I have been receiving comments from you, Nancy.
Meanwhile WP has been flagging down many of my comments as spam.

I really feel your pain, Shweta. I’m trying to keep a list of all the sites on which I cannot comment and inform WP as to who they are. The list is growing! I hope your issues get resolved quickly.

Thank you, Nancy. I hope that they’ll be able to sort it out quickly! Here’s hoping that this will be dealt with before the end of the year!

I’ve been getting your comments, but I know how exasperating WP can be. I am constantly getting signed out of my own account and having to sign back in again, which is very tedious, and sometimes I am unable to comment on people’s sites, although I can usually do it from WP Reader. Sometimes WP won’t let me like anything, or a like will show up and then disappear. That gets pretty annoying.

Oh boy! Misery loves company, eh? Everyone has some sort of issue.
Someone else mentioned a problem with being able to like a post. I’ve had that happen but I found a way around it quite by accident. Try leaving a comment on the post first, then click on ‘like’. Something “frees up” the ability to like after you leave a comment; try it next time. I hope it works for you.
🤞🏼

Ah, the wacky world of WordPress Happiness Engineers, where “everything looks fine on our end, so the problem must be on yours.” I so sympathize, Nancy!

I’m so sorry to hear about your WP problems! You are not the only one. I used to hope that these were just temporary issues but I am not so sure. Let’s hope they start to listen to their customers. All the best! 🌹F

I asked AI to check your site. You can find the results below. I left out the recommendations you have already tried yourself. Plugins could be a reason:
JavaScript Errors: There might be JavaScript errors on the page preventing the comment form from submitting correctly. Check your browser’s developer console (usually opened by pressing F12) for any error messages.
Form Field Validation: The form might have validation rules that are too strict or not working as intended, preventing submission. Try testing with very simple comments to rule this out.
Plugin Conflicts: If you recently installed or updated plugins, one of them might be interfering with the comment functionality. Try deactivating plugins one by one to see if that resolves the issue.
Theme Compatibility: In some cases, the theme you’re using might not be fully compatible with the latest WordPress version or other plugins, causing issues with comments.
3. Browser or Device Issues:
Browser Compatibility: The issue might be specific to the browser your co-blogger is using. Ask them to try a different browser to see if that helps.
Caching Issues: Sometimes, outdated cached files can cause problems. Ask your co-blogger to clear their browser cache and cookies.
Debugging Steps:
Test with a different user account: Try leaving a comment yourself using a different account to see if you encounter the same problem.
Check server logs: Your web server logs might contain error messages that can provide clues about the issue.
Disable any custom code: If you have any custom code snippets or modifications related to comments, temporarily disable them to see if that makes a difference.

😂 Lovely comeback!
From what I understand, I need a WordPress Business Plan to enable/install plugins.

I’ve disabled the snow; let’s see if that helps.

I don’t want to get on your nerves, but for me one possibility is that the plugin with the falling snow could be to blame. Try disabling it and see what happens.

I’ve been getting all yor comments, and I haven’t had any trouble leaving comments on your sit. I have noticed that, for about a month now, I’ll leave a comment on a post and won’t see it until I reload the page. Might try that…

I’m getting ’em. WP does these random “improvements”…it’s usually just needing to wait until it settles itself down. Ugh!

Thanks, Liz! We don’t need no stinkin’ improvements. They usually end up making things worse!

I and other friends here have had recent problems with WP bugs and what-not. The program was easier to use before than it is now. Also, I have always had problems overt with subscriber comments going to my Spam box.

I received your comments but remember I was saying one of em landed in spam! I don’t know if you reached out to https://akismet.com/contact/
Pooja gave me that really great advice, not too long ago. You select “I think Akismet is catching my comments by mistake.” It seemed to help a bit, if it can help you, then wonderful!

Yes, I remember you found me in spam. Thanks for the Akismet suggestion. I will reach out to them now. Strange that WP didn’t tell me to do that.

Yes, I receive your comments. The last from you was 12/21. I have made comments on your blog and we can back and forth that way. And yes, I have had some problem making my comments stick. But I just keep writing them over and eventually they take.
Doesn’t seem you are getting much help.
I don’t write many comments (not good at commenting) Your comments are always good etc and I wouldn’t want to miss them.

I regularly get comments from you so as far as I can tell all is ok. But if I wasn’t, how would I know? 🤔

Thanks, Clive. I comment every time you post something. If a couple of days go by and you don’t see anything from me, we can assume my comments aren’t going through.

Your comments are always very welcome, Nancy. As far as I can tell I haven’t missed any yet – tomorrow is SLS day so that should be a good test of how the system is working, both for sent and received. 🤞

My thoughts exactly, Clive.
I belong to a group called Friday Fictioneers. Last night I was unable to comment on anyone’s posts within that group. I wonder now if there was a glitch within that site. Perhaps I should try again.
LikeLiked by 1 person
It might be worth checking that site to see if others have been able to comment. That won’t prove anything but might give you a clue as to where WP’s problem lies. It’s annoying, isn’t it!

It’s very frustrating! I hoped this morning once I turned my laptop back on everything would be working but it’s still problematic.
Regarding the group, I see lots of comments from other group members on posts within the group; of course, I can’t know if anyone is having a problem commenting. For some reason I see my comments to the group leader go through without a hitch. I just wrote to her about my situation. I also wrote to Akismet as someone suggested. Let’s see what happens.
I’m about to open Reader; It will be interesting if I can comment there.

According to WP, if our accounts status was not in good standing, we would receive a notification or an email informing us.

I am having an issue with the Likes not sticking again. Matter of fact, I have an upcoming post that includes some bitching about that 😄
