Written for The New, Unofficial, On-Line Writer’s Guild.
This week the three prompts from aooga at OLWG #392 are
1) a Texaco bathroom, 2) Gaucho, and 3) Chinese work songs.
This is my story.

The murmuring hum of the miles. My life has become an endless freeway dotted with a sea of dizzying mirages. At times they seem so real but are merely apparitions, figments of the imagination, delusions of my dreams.
Too many selfish hours on the road to perdition without pause …. only failure and punishment and ceaseless thoughts of Marie-Elena crashing over me like a tsunami …. no easy task for even the toughest of men.
Truth is, and I’ll take this to my grave …. if I stop for just a moment, my head will burst from the frenetic surge of memories of her and our unquenchable days and nights at the Amargosa Hotel.
There were times I thought I’d finally broken her but she constantly challenged me; her spirit was too strong. Marie-Elena …. my wild, fierce and magnificent Criollo. An angel, a demon, my slave and my master. My soul.
I would willingly spend a thousand hours in hell for another chance to feel her beneath me, to hear her whispered pleadings, to taste her mouth …. to dance with the Devil.
We live too short and die too long. I will not rest as long as the Asian lark continues to sing the 13 ancient songs of Beijing. 百灵十三套
Marie-Elena. It’s you once again and always, leading me on, driving me on, and there’s no turning back on the road.

Such a great song! The perfect tone for your captivating story. 👏🏻 I like to read your prompts after I read your stories. 👍🏻

That’s an interesting way of approaching the story, Michele. I’ll have to try that when reading some of my writer friends’ posts. 🤩
This is a favorite song of mine; Robert Plant is, among other things, mesmerizing! 😎

Wonderful music share and one I haven’t heard in a long while. 👍🏻 Reading the prompts after is interesting. A first reading, flowing with the story, then revisiting with a focus on the different elements/ideas you’ve incorporated. Great fun! 🙌🏻 A wonderful weekend to you writer Nancy! 🌺
