Sadje has asked us in her Sunday Poser #208 – Making Money:
“Making money from your blog is becoming easier, will you
take this opportunity?” Here is my answer to her question.

Not gonna happen! I write because I love telling stories and entertaining people with words and music …. a fulfilling and gratifying pastime. Likes and comments are always greatly appreciated; when someone comments on a video accompanying one of my stories, that’s a real bonus! I’m not looking for more than that.
Adding music to my stories is like getting dressed for a big date; that last piece of jewelry will be the finishing touch to an outfit. Music works the same way. A song can make or break a story so it really needs to be well-planned.
Storytelling and music blogging are my great loves but I’ve become more skillful at poetry and get a rush being inspired by prompts and/or images.
Not one to hide my emotions, I get tremendous joy just knowing there are people who are surprised, saddened, angered or amused by my words. Making people laugh is especially rewarding!
WordPress is my “relationship platform” as I do not spend much time on social media. I have made a lot of friends around the world and correspond with a few via email. I admire them and their many talents but most of all, I like them as people and care about them.
Writing is a challenging activity which satisfies my artistic needs and keeps my brain, eyes and hands active and nimble. I am never bored.
Once money comes into the picture, a hobby becomes a job. At this stage of my life, the last thing I’m looking for is a job! I’m very active on my site but it’s nice to know I can log off and spend the afternoon daydreaming if I want to. I’m really quite happy being an unknown, unpaid storyteller! 😊
Thanks for a great Sunday poser, Sadje!

Really enjoyed reading your thoughts on writing and blogging in the context of (not) making money. Love this: “Adding music to my stories is like getting dressed for a big date” 🎶 You do know how to accessorize! 🤩

The currency here is laughter, touching stories in blog and comments, threaded through with a little bit o’ boogie. Let’s all keep rolling!

That is such a great comment, Liz, I may have to add it to my about page!
Thanks so very much! Boogie on! 😎

I feel exactly the same way, Nancy. When money comes into picture, it feels less like a hobby. I really enjoy your poems and stories so I hope you’ll keep on writing. I don’t spend any time on social media either. WP is what takes up most of my time

Thanks, Shweta. It’s wonderful to find so many like-minded people. I plan to write as long as I can keep putting sentences together! 😂
I appreciate you sharing your thoughts.

Beautifully said my friend. You are so right about the money making it a job! It’s all about the journey, not the pocketbook.
And, great daydreaming selection…

Thanks, D! I quit my paying job back in 1977 when our first baby was born and I never missed it. There’s a term I love and haven’t used in a long time: forced fun. That’s what my delightful pastime would become once money started changing hands. I’ll pass!

It was like that with my photographs. I had two shows, and all of a sudden it was about little red dots and not the enjoyment of putting a piece together, and I didn’t want a hundred copies of any print out there. After that, I just donated work to non-profit auctions and gifted to family and friends. Just enjoy the process, don’t need any more pressures in my life.

Well said. I feel the same way about my blogging activities. I started posting as a way of journaling. I discovered that readers who stumbled across my page were kind and encouraging. That’s my payoff.

Lovely comment, Clive. Thanks so much. 😊
PS – I finally got around to watching “Pirate Radio” last night, which you recommended a while back. What a fun flick and a fab soundtrack! Thanks! 😎

You’re very welcome, Nancy.
I had to think about that for a moment, until I realised that what we knew as ‘The Boat That Rocked’ had been renamed for US release. I think the title here was better! It’s a fun movie, isn’t it, with the soundtrack to my youth all the way through it, while I was growing up listening to those stations. Happy and exciting times.

Definitely prefer the UK title. Let’s just call it a fun flick with a fab soundtrack. I adore Bill Nighy in everything he does and the very talented Kenneth Branagh had me LOL with his performance. Even his hair was uptight! 🤣

It made more sense to me, but maybe they thought the pun was too much for you guys 🤣
I’m also a big Bill Nighy fan. Loved him as Billy Mack in Love Actually. Have you seen his recent one, Living? A very sweet tale and he is his usual great self in it.
And anything which has Gemma Arterton gets my vote too 😉

I’ll have to check out “Living”. I’m sure you’re seen “About Time”, one of my favorites.
“Love Actually” is one of those movies I never tire of watching.

It’s a nice movie and I think you’ll enjoy it.
I have both of those in my iTunes collection. Love Actually is part of my Christmas – I watch it every year 😊

You are absolutely right, Nancy! You run a wonderful blog that many people don’t want to miss. I doubt that you can keep your readers happy with annoying advertising. And what is the point? $10 a month? $20? You have to write a lot and attract a corresponding number of visitors. That might work for certain niche “millionaire in underwear” schemes, but in my view not for the literary sector.

You hit the nail on the head re annoying advertising. The point escapes me!
