Written for Friday Fictioneers where our host Rochelle

making every word count. Hereâs my flash.

âWell, here we are, Chip. Back in Beech Grove, Indiana!â
âYou know, Babs. The old homestead really hasnât changed much.â
âThe Colonial Movie House is still open! Man, Iâm so happy they didnât get rid of that beautiful façade. Mom hated it, always saying it looked like a widowâs walk.â
âI bet you canât remember the first movie we saw there, sis. Loser buys lunch.â
âAre you kidding me? It was âThe Blobâ with Steve McQueen. God, I loved that man!â
âThatâs right! I forgot about your crush!â
âLook! Fire Station #1910 is now a burger joint. Youâre buying, bro!â

Dear Nancy,
Oh those eyes of his! Love the story. Looks like brother’s buying lunch. đ I don’t think I’ve ever seen The Blob but might have to for the entertainment value. And I recognized Andy Griffith’s former squeeze Helen Krump AKA Aneta Corsaut. Thanks for the trot down Memory Lane.
Shalom,
Rochelle

Indeed, Rochelle. Steve was gorgeous; those eyes are dreamy. And speaking of eyes, yours are excellent for spotting Aneta Corsaut. You absolutely must watch The Blob; it’s awful, of course, but great fun! Glad to know you had a good trip down Memory Lane. Thanks for your lovely comments.

Steve McQueen was the cat’s meow. I really enjoyed your story honoring his memory. How could a God like him have been born in Indiana?

Hahaha! Don’t let the good folks from Indiana hear you say that!
But, truly, I know what you mean. What a hunk! đ€đđ€
Thanks, Lisa!

Never! That was a classic tv western with Steve McQueen and a sawed-off rifle in his holster!

I remember my mother talking about how handsome Steve McQueen was. Now you have me wanting to look him up. Was this building once a movie house? I researched it a bit also and that rings a bell.

If the building was a movie house, Dawn, it’s strictly coincidence. This is total fiction except for Beech Grove, Indiana being Steve McQueen’s birthplace.
He portrayed everything from a playboy art thief to a POW to a cowboy. I think I’ve seen every movie he was in. Another great actor gone much too soon. Thanks, Dawn.

I forgot about the Blob, thanks for the memories, Nancy. I remember skipping out of school to go watch the movie Bullitt.

The Blob was just the beginning! Those old trailers are such fun to watch. Steve McQueen was a great actor; I think my favorite movie of his was Papillon.

The Blob! I had a party once where we watched this movie and we all got very silly. Adult beverages were involved.
Nice job N.! Such a vibrant star that burned out much too early.

Sounds like a great party; what fun! I remember that movie so well.
Steve McQueen had terminal cancer caused by asbestos. As there was no cure, he traveled to Mexico for unconventional treatments. He died there at age 50. Such a tragic loss.

Indeed. I guess if there is nothing his doctors could do, it was worth a try.

That was a lovely touch about the fire station. Pretty much everything has become a burger joint, hasn’t it?

Everywhere you turn … it’s either another burger joint or a CVS!
Thanks, Neil!

Our cinema has been closed for a ‘long time’. The first film I watched at the cinema was “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid”, since then many more.
The old SciFi films with their odd effects were fantastic.

The old movie theaters are so charming and hold many memories for us. My husband is a 1950s sci-fi junkie; there’s probably one on the tv right now!
Thanks, Anon! đ
