Not My Bag, Baby

Written for Sammi’s Weekend Writing Prompt #376
where we are to write something in exactly 20 words
and include the word ‘handmade’. Here’s my flash.

This quilted pillow is the only handmade item I’ve stitched.

I’m a cook and crafter but sewing’s not my thing!

    1. Thanks, Iris. My mother was a professional seamstress; the skill must have skipped a generation in my case! I can’t sew a lick and I was shocked the pillow came out as nice as it did. The quilting class was good and I was determined to finish what I started but quilting didn’t grab me enough to stick with it.

          1. Really? How do you sleep with your head on a small square cushion? So I have lived 50 years thinking I knew the difference between a pillow and cushion. As my site’s key quote reads: “The more I live, the more I learn. The more I learn, the more I realize, the less I know.”

    1. Are you? I didn’t know that, D! I’m rather proud of this pillow. I stuck with it and it’s the only sewing project I completed that looks good. Every scarf I ever tried to knit wound up being 8″ wide on one end and 15″ on the other! I’m better off in the kitchen or the sunroom with my plants! 😂

      Thanks so much, D.

    1. Thank you, Michele. The pillow is very nice; it’s been in our sunroom for 30 years or so. I’ve seen some gorgeous quilted items so hats off to all the quilters out there. It took too long for me to make this pillow and after a while I began to resent it. Working with a needle and thread just isn’t for me. 🪡

      1. You’re welcome, Nancy. I know what you mean about quilters – my mom has made some extraordinary quilts (fortunate to have one), and I have a friend who makes quilted art. Unbelievable! 👏🏻 “Resent it” – I feel ya – I felt that way about a pink Cinderella gown I made years ago for a coworker, size 44W. Lots of detail and lots of fabric, for days. Finished the last stitch then put that dress in my car, lickety split!
