Written for dVerse Poetsβ theme:
Poetics: Dreaming up a Poem.
This is my Ovi based on a dream.

We were in the car
Hadnβt gone very far
Not a cloud the sky to mar
It was a glorious day
We went to the casino
Hoping to win lots of dough
Trying not our money to blow
The slots were on our side
The sun was bright in the sky
We were happy, spirits high
The road was clear, I could fly
Where should we go for lunch?
Suddenly a huge traffic jam
On my brakes I did slam
Fishtailing, I felt the ram
Some guy hit me really hard
No way could I stop it
Roll roll roll flip into a pit
All we could do was sit
Gravel poured through the cracked sunroof
Police and ambulance appear
Anyone in there? Can you hear?
Iβm in shock, feel no fear
Weβre rushed to the hospital
Iβm ok but my husbandβs hurt
Thereβs so much blood on his shirt
Heβs dazed and confused, not alert
God, please let him be ok
Dream ends and I wake up
I reach for my water cup
Heart is racing, thump thump thump
This is a true story

This ovi poem is based on a horrible rollover accident from 2001 in which my husband and I were involved. The photo above is what was left of my car. I believe in God and I’m sure he was watching over us. It’s been 23 years but I still have dreams of that day.

Horrible nightmare! May our good dreams hold on more tightly!

Holy shit, Nancy! Your Post-It was definitely not called in on that day, thankfully. (Post-It reference comes from “Dead Like Me”)
That said, not only am I grateful you guys are both okay, but ya done did a good a job on this here Ovi!

It was a freakin nightmare … once reality set in. I was running around like the energizer bunny on crack trying to figure out how to get to the junkyard where my car was towed, get all our stuff out of the car and find a ride to get Bill home with an arm locked in position over his head. It had to get done and I had to do it.
Thanks, my friend. I’m very grateful to still be here also. And thanks for the nice comments on my Ovi.

I can well imagine. Man oh man. Lots to deal with. So no wonder you were running around!
I am so glad you all walked away from that, with bumps and bruises and arms locked above heads but still.
My pleasure!

Oh my stars! What a horrible experience, and I can certainly understand why you have nightmares still about it. Your guardian angels were with you without doubt. π

There’s no doubt about that, D! There was a tractor trailer driver who saw us roll over and backed up his rig until he found my car, checked on us and called for help. After that everything magically fell into place.

It must have been like a dream state.

That’s a great way to put it, D.

I was in an accident, and I remember it in slow motion, every second of it is etched in my memory, every thought and action. A dream state, that was more present than any other moment in my life.

That’s a very good description. I hope you’re not plagued by the memory of your accident. Having a dark shadow following you around is difficult to handle. Take care, my friend. I wish you all the best blessings in life. β‘

No bad dreams, just an occasional sense of wonder when I think back on it. I was only 16!

Damn. That would give anyone traumatized nightmares, it looks like your guardian angels were definitely with you! π

I couldn’t believe that was my car; that image is one of my photos. Everyone was so incredibly nice to us. I must have been quite a sight with my torn sweatshirt and gravel in my hair. That day I didn’t care; I was too busy being grateful. ππΌ
Thank you, Michele. π©Ά

I understand, overwhelming gratitude trumps those trivial details. You’re welcome, Nancy. Hugs!

Yes, it seems someone was watching over you. What a terrible ordeal it must have been for both of you.

Ordeal. That’s the perfect word. I was running on adrenaline all day. It took about three days for the reality to sink in.
Thanks, Glyn.

First, I am glad you both survived this event. I can understand why nightmares would follow such a traumatic experience. I do believe there was divine intervention on that day! You are the witness, the survivor.
Brightest Blessing and may peaceful dreams bring calmness….

Thanks so much, True. I think if I didn’t have recurring dreams about the accident it would be most unusual (unless the event is so deeply buried in my subconscious; it’s not.) Fortunately, the dreams don’t happen often.
True, I’m happy to know you share my belief in divine intervention. I have been a witness too many to discount it.
Thank you for your excellent comment.

I cannot imagine what that must have been like, nor would I want to.

As I was reading it, I was hoping this wasn’t based on a true story, then to learn it was, made me sad and concerned. I gather that miraculously both of you came away from this relatively unscathed? I understand how you still dream about it.
I had a serious car accident in the early 2000’s. I sometimes wonder if what I am seeing and doing is in fact part of the ‘real’ conscious, living and breathing world that existed before the accident.
To quote EAP – ‘All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream’.

It’s as true as you can get, Matt. I was not hurt, just tossed around a bit. Bill wasn’t so lucky but he made it through.
Thanks for sharing your personal story and for voicing your comments.

I was tossed around but Bill was hurt. After getting him settled in the emergency room, I called for a cab to take me to the car compound. I needed to collect all our stuff from the car, remove the plates, etc. The guys working at the compound were in disbelief when I walked in. I remember one guy saying “That’s your car? We didn’t think anyone walked away from that.” It was intense and possibly the start of my knee and back issues.
I know how lucky we were. Thanks so much.

I can understand their disbelief! Iβm glad Bill has recovered, but it does sound as though it was the beginning of later issues for you. Take care.

I’m sure it was … and for Bill, too. Thanks so much, Clive. I appreciate you. π

Happy to hear you both survived — dreams use the mask of events in our history — jobs, loves, nights, losses — to enact their theater, for purposes and dramas which may never be fully understood. Interpretation of dreams is an angelic function, lost to me at least, though they offer a grand canvas to play with. The ovi form makes for flowing paths.

After experiencing this life and death experience, I’m glad I don’t dream about it more often. It isn’t something I enjoy reliving.
I greatly appreciate your comments, Brendan

How awful, and terrifying. I understand still reliving it in dreams.

OMG Willow! What a video! I should have asked you first if you knew any great rollover videos I could use!
The accident happened so fast yet there was a second of slow motion when Bill and I looked at each other with WTF expressions on our faces. How the car landed right-side-up is nothing less than a miracle.
Thank you for your comments and that incredible video. π©Άπ©Ά

We are. The guys working at the car compound said the same thing. The driver of the car that hit me was driving an uninsured rental without the proper credentials and an expired state inspection. The rental was messed up badly in the accident but the driver was ok.
