Friends & Family Friday 4.12

The son of Bob Dylan shares what his father has passed on to him and what he’s passing on to his children …. his passion for great songs.

Jakob Luke Dylan was born in New York City on December 9, 1969 to Bob Dylan and Sara Lownds. He began is music career in various indie bands before rising to fame as the lead singer and primary songwriter for the rock band The Wallflowers. He has written hit songs such as “6th Avenue Heartache” and “One Headlight”, which is listed at #58 on Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Pop Songs”, and for which he won two Grammy Awards. More recently, Jakob Dylan has released two solo albums – “Seeing Things” and “Women + Country”; the latter became Dylan’s highest-charting album since The Wallflowers’ 1996 breakthrough “Bringing Down The Horse“, peaking at #12 on the Billboard 200.

  1. I had no idea he was Bob’s son! A couple of weeks ago you gave a nod to Joe Brown. I saw his daughter, also a singer, Sam Brown a couple of times live with the Jools Holland Rhythm and Blues Orchestra. Apparently, she also worked as a backing vocalist with George Harrison!

  2. A great start to what I hope will become a regular feature. Bringing Down The Horse is a fantastic album, which accompanied me on many a long car commute in the mid 90s.

If you’re in need of further suggestions, you could do worse than Noah Cyrus, and either July or Dear August. Sooo much better than her big sister!

    1. When I chose this song I thought some people would like it; I had no idea how many really LIKE it and the Wallflowers.

Do I really need another regular feature? Totally not …. but it all for the love of music!

Thanks for the suggestions, Clive; I agree …. soo much better than her big sister! 😃

    1. My pleasure! And thank you, Ivor! 😊

Yesterday I mentioned to my husband this idea of doing a Friends & Family Friday music theme; he liked the idea and starting with Jakob, I thought, was a good beginning. We’ll see if I decide to keep this new addition to my blog on a regular basis. In any event, I am very pleased to know you enjoyed today’s post.
