WARNING: THIS BLOG WAS NOT CREATED FOR BEATLEMANIACS!
If youβre on the fence about the Beatles or if you just donβt like them,
this blog is for you. My goal is not to convert you; itβs to expose you
to the lesser-known Beatles songs we donβt hear day in and day out.
These great tunes will show you just how amazing the Beatles are.
Of course, if you are a Beatles fan, pull up a chair and enjoy the tunes!

Welcome back to Feb Fab Faux Four!
I had a request for today’s song (that’s right; I take requests!), so rather than risk forgetting to follow through, I rearranged today’s line-up to feature this number.
Honestly, I can’t think of another Beatles cover that could sound any more different than the original. One is a chipper, happy-go-lucky number while the other is a banging, bluesy rock anthem.
Have you figured out which song this could possibly be? Well, let’s not waste another second. Here we go!
Here are the Beatles with Ringo singing lead on “With A Little Help From My Friends”
πͺ²
And here is “With A Little Help From My Friend” by the one and only Joe Cocker
Well, not much to say here other than the song speaks for itself!
Happy to oblige my friend’s request; if there’s a song you’d like me to feature, leave a message in the comments and I’ll be sure to fit it in.
Join me tomorrow for a complete 180!
See you on the flip side. π

PS β If any video wonβt play for you, Iβve provided the name of the song and who did it so you can find it on YouTube. Itβs a pain in the ass but it does happen from time to time. My apologies.

Oh I love this one! A song about friends you can’t go wrong! β€

Both great versions, imo. Cocker can be… intense… but that’s ok.

Yeah, in this he’s beyond intense. Have you heard him do “You Can Leave Your Hat On”? It’s sexy, mama, and I never thought I’d say that about Joe Cocker. π

Oh yes, I have π Saw Kim Basinger dance to it also in “9 1/2 weeks” Mickey Rourke was still gorgeous back then.

OMGosh. I remember gorgeous Mickey Rourke. Talk about sad!

Why the *hell* did he have to mess with perfection? It’s like, dude, you looked like a god.

Same crap with Axl Rose. He is horribly unrecognizable these days.

I seem to recollect hearing this cover probably as much as the original (or parts of it! The chorus especially). But, Nancy, I could be wrong. It is music we’re talking about! π€£

I’m pretty sure you’ve heard this song once or twice, Tom.
Stick with me; one of these days I want to hear you say “I love that song!”

No, no, I’ve heard it, it’s the cover version I feel I’ve heard more… I confuse myself at times.
As for loving one of your songs, I have one word: ‘Blindsided’ π

That was pretty cool, wasn’t it?
Glad you liked it.

Two very different takes here. Both so the song justice. It was a perfect vehicle for Ringo. Their arrangement fits his personality. Cocker takes it to a whole new level. It goes from being a Beatles song to Cocker classic. You “feel” his version a lot more than the Beatles.

Excellent summation, Keith! Thanks for adding your viewpoint.
Finding really good Beatles covers is not easy!

It’s interesting to look at Cocker on the cover of the album “A Little Help From My Friends” and to see him on the 2007 album, 40 years later. It’s almost hard to believe they’re the same guy.

You’re right, John, but I love the way he looks on this album and his voice, which always so incredibly unique, had matured into the bluesy sexy rock balladeer! Such a great talent.

I love both covers but it’s always Jo Cocker for me πππππ

This is definitely a stand out cover; Joe Cocker took it and make it his own. I was blown away when I first heard it.

I have always loved Joe Cocker’s version (way more) π Not that the Beatles version is bad, of course. As you say, it’s a more chipper version of the song. Joe’s heart is on his sleeve in this one and gives me goosebumps. Plus Joe died the day after my husband did and I had my brother-in-law include this song on his celebration life video.

Oh, Dale! I got chills reading what you wrote about your husband. I’m sure this song will always be tucked away in the corner of your heart.
Ringo (bless him!) did a fine job as part of the Beatles medley but as a stand alone song, it just doesn’t do much for me.
Thanks for sharing your very personal thoughts with us. π©Ά

Aww thank you, Nancy. It was just one of those things and yes, this song will always have a special place (even if Mick was a die-hard Led Zep fan). And yes, it is a fine job as a Beatles tune but… meh π

Sometimes when bands get ‘guests’ on stage to participate in a song, it doesn’t always work. This one did.

This one definitely worked …. big time!
Thanks, Glyn.

I had a ticket for that Mad Dogs and Englishmen show at the Fillmore East, but somebody broke into my gym locker and stole it. Thanks for sharing this great cover, Nancy.

What a total bummer! People can be such lowlives at times!
Most welcome for Joe’s cover, Jim. Any other requests, I’ll be here all month.

So many Beatles songs have been covered, some good, some not so, but this is up there with the best. One song I wish they’d never had a go at was She’s Leaving Home. It’s theirs and their’s alone.

Trying to find good Beatles covers that aren’t duplicates of the originals has been more difficult that I expected. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing to sound like the original …. check out the one I have scheduled for Sunday …. but finding good remakes with a distinctive sound of their own is a challenge.
She’s Leaving Home is one of the most beautiful songs ever written; I’ll not be touching that one.

Yeah, what a contrast! But also the sign of a great musician, to honor a simple song with a fabulous, spicy interpretation of their own!

That’s how to do a cover – make the song your own. Joe had a UK #1 with this, deservedly so. I still love the original too π

This is a classic cover; I don’t think any of us will ever forget the first time we saw Joe. We had no idea what to expect. I had the great pleasure of seeing him at the Fillmore East during his Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. He was quite a character, entertainer and singer. Extremely talented man.
I love the Beatles original as part of the whole Sgt Pepper medley but I’m not crazy about it as a stand-alone song.

I never got to see him in concert, but I wish I had.
That Sgt Pepper medley is so well done, isnβt it. A trick they repeated on Abbey Road.

I know this one well Nancy, and I posted a Mumford & Sons version of the Joe Cocker’s fabulous cover the Beatles Song, on my site a couple of days ago ….

Yes, I liked it then and I like it now. It’s an exceptional arrangement. It’s also the first time I’ve seen a red trombone! My friend Clive (above) is a big Mumford & Sons fan.
I have something planned at some point during February …. a covers battle of the bands. I hope you’ll stick around.
Thanks for sharing this vid with us, Ivor!
