Welcome back to Feb Fab Faux Four!

I had a request for today’s song (that’s right; I take requests!), so rather than risk forgetting to follow through, I rearranged today’s line-up to feature this number.

Honestly, I can’t think of another Beatles cover that could sound any more different than the original. One is a chipper, happy-go-lucky number while the other is a banging, bluesy rock anthem.

Have you figured out which song this could possibly be? Well, let’s not waste another second. Here we go!

  3. I seem to recollect hearing this cover probably as much as the original (or parts of it! The chorus especially). But, Nancy, I could be wrong. It is music we’re talking about! 🀣

      1. No, no, I’ve heard it, it’s the cover version I feel I’ve heard more… I confuse myself at times.
        As for loving one of your songs, I have one word: ‘Blindsided’ πŸ˜€

  4. Two very different takes here. Both so the song justice. It was a perfect vehicle for Ringo. Their arrangement fits his personality. Cocker takes it to a whole new level. It goes from being a Beatles song to Cocker classic. You “feel” his version a lot more than the Beatles.

  5. It’s interesting to look at Cocker on the cover of the album “A Little Help From My Friends” and to see him on the 2007 album, 40 years later. It’s almost hard to believe they’re the same guy.

  7. I have always loved Joe Cocker’s version (way more) πŸ˜‰ Not that the Beatles version is bad, of course. As you say, it’s a more chipper version of the song. Joe’s heart is on his sleeve in this one and gives me goosebumps. Plus Joe died the day after my husband did and I had my brother-in-law include this song on his celebration life video.

    1. Oh, Dale! I got chills reading what you wrote about your husband. I’m sure this song will always be tucked away in the corner of your heart.
      Ringo (bless him!) did a fine job as part of the Beatles medley but as a stand alone song, it just doesn’t do much for me.

      1. Aww thank you, Nancy. It was just one of those things and yes, this song will always have a special place (even if Mick was a die-hard Led Zep fan). And yes, it is a fine job as a Beatles tune but… meh πŸ˜‰

    1. Trying to find good Beatles covers that aren’t duplicates of the originals has been more difficult that I expected. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing to sound like the original …. check out the one I have scheduled for Sunday …. but finding good remakes with a distinctive sound of their own is a challenge.

      She’s Leaving Home is one of the most beautiful songs ever written; I’ll not be touching that one.

    1. This is a classic cover; I don’t think any of us will ever forget the first time we saw Joe. We had no idea what to expect. I had the great pleasure of seeing him at the Fillmore East during his Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour. He was quite a character, entertainer and singer. Extremely talented man.

      I love the Beatles original as part of the whole Sgt Pepper medley but I’m not crazy about it as a stand-alone song.

    1. Yes, I liked it then and I like it now. It’s an exceptional arrangement. It’s also the first time I’ve seen a red trombone! My friend Clive (above) is a big Mumford & Sons fan.

      I have something planned at some point during February …. a covers battle of the bands. I hope you’ll stick around.
