Now just for fun ….. here’s something you don’t see every day.
Marlon Brando in the role of Sky Masterson singing “Luck Be A Lady” from the 1955 film “Guys and Dolls”. If you thought Frank Sinatra sang this song in the movie, like many other people you’d be wrong!
Who knew! I wonder if his Lady Luck was named “STELLA!!” 😉
Let’s go with an easy peasy question today:
Marlon Brando is famous for a lot of movies; however, this 1972 multi-award-winning blockbuster is his most famous. Name the movie and his character.
Here’s the question from last week:
Since 1998 Barbra Streisand has been married to actor James Brolin; however, he was not her first husband. Her first marriage was in 1963 to an actor who went on to achieve great success; together they have one son, actor Jason, who was born in 1966. Who was Barbra Streisand’s first husband?
And the answer is … Elliott Gould.
Well, the movie’s over; wonder what Mr. Bump’s got cooked up for Saturday.
Have a great week! Catch you next time At The Movies.
See you on the flip side.

Being used to Sinatra’s version, this, for me is a little disappointing!
I found your easy peasy question hardy lardy! Not a clue. I’m with Staci when it comes to Casablanca, a great movie.

This is one of my favorite musicals. I watch it every time it’s on. Did you know Brando didn’t want to sing and only agreed because he was promised his voice would be dubbed with a professional singer’s? (And that’s the least of the rumors from that film!)

I absolutely did not! What a great piece of info. Thanks for sharing with us, Staci! I’m surprised the studio heads would pull a stunt like that on him. He’s Brando!

They approached him several times just to get him to accept. The clincher was that Sinatra wanted the role, and they didn’t like each other, so Brando agreed. That went over as well as you might expect. Another rumor is that Sinatra had “friends” abduct Brando one evening and threaten to kill him.
Like I said, so many behind the scenes stories in this movie.

OMG! I am so intrigued now, I have to read up on the behind the scenes at Guys and Dolls! Great stuff, Staci!

You should. It’s fascinating! (And, for me, anyway, far more interesting than whatever’s going on in Hollywood today.)

Definitely. I much prefer watching an old movie. I can’t remember the last movie I saw in a theater. Was obviously pre-covid. I just recorded Call Of the Wild with Harrison Ford based on the Jack London novel. Looks great.

Let me know how you like it. I was considering watching Casablanca again tonight. (There’s very little on these days that looks good, but you can never go wrong with Casablanca.)

Hi Staci – I watched Call of the Wild last night; it was a beautiful movie. The CGI effects are amazing and who doesn’t like Harrison Ford? If you find the time, it’s worthwhile viewing.

I’ll add that to my list. Thanks, Nancy.

Great choice N,! I never saw this and would have guessed Sinatra for sure! I’ve seen the play, it is painfully outdated, but great music that sticks in the mind – “I’ve got a horse right here, his name is Paul Revere….”

There are so many great songs from this show! I saw the play a really long time ago and the movie a few years ago. It was watching the movie when I realized it was Brando singing that song … and that’s probably the biggest number from the show! Like I said before: Who knew??

Capricorn One had a fantastic cast. As I recall, even O. J. Simpson was in that one! 😳 Who knew??

Ok, so did he win? You can’t keep us in suspense like this 😁

Haha!! Yes, he did win but for some convoluted reason he told everyone he lost. I have to confess I don’t know that much about Guy and Dolls; I just like this song and thought it was a trip hearing Brando sing!

I certainly didn’t know Marlon could sing!
Nancy,” I am gonna make you an offer you can’t refuse. ” And I better do it right, because as Calo says “In Sicily, women are more dangerous than shotguns!”

That makes two of us! I first heard this song on one of Sinatra’s albums so naturally I thought it was his song. I was shocked to find out it was Brando! He did a pretty good job, too! Who knew! 🤷🏼♀️
Well, judging by your comment you know the answer to the question (I said it was easy peasy). And that saying about Sicilian women and shotguns is as old as the Sicilian hills … but very true! 😂
