Night Council

Our gracious host, Rochelle, is asking us to get
creative in 100 words or less using the photo
seen below. Welcome to Friday Fictioneers.
This is where the prompt took me.

The fern lazily unfurled a frond toward the spider plant. “They’ve gone to sleep again.”

“Finally,” sighed the philodendron, trailing a long vine across the sill. “Always moving us. Too much sun. Too little sun.

The orchid, dignified and deliberate, waltzed toward the window lights outside. “Those are street trees. They’ve been there a hundred years.”

Silence settled between the pots.

“Do you think they know about us?” asked the small cactus, barely visible in the dark.

The fern considered this prickly question carefully.

“The trees? Oh yes. They know everything. They’re the ones who told us you were coming.”

  1. I love the thought of trees and plants talking. Poor plants that do well in a ‘humid environment.’ **please don’t put us in the bathroom! please!**😂

    1. 😂 My sister-in-law is big on putting plants in the bathroom. I was at her house one day, in the bathroom, and I was starting to get claustrophobic. It felt like the philodendron behind me was going to wind itself around my neck! It was very creepy. When I said something to my SIL, she responded with “but they love the humidity!” I suggested she put the plants in the shower with her! She didn’t think that was funny. 😂

      1. haha! I think that is hilarious! Can’t you picture trying to get out of the shower and a tendril has wrapped itself around your ankle. Oh, yeah. So many stories here, Nancy! 😂🪴
