The Watcher

Our gracious host, Rochelle, is asking us to get
creative in 100 words or less using the photo
seen below. Welcome to Friday Fictioneers
This is where the prompt took me.

Eve raised her binoculars, savoring the golden-hour skyline from her window seat in the café. Steam curled from her coffee as the glass towers glittered across the water.

She panned slowly left, then right.

One window, fortieth floor, maybe higher, a figure stood perfectly still.

Also holding binoculars.

Pointed directly at her.

Eve lowered hers, then raised them again. The figure hadn’t moved. Still there, still watching, unblinking across the frozen distance between them.

Her coffee went cold.

She told herself it was coincidence.

She repeated that while walking home.

She was shocked by how much it turned her on.

  1. Well, mystery and intrigue can be quite the thrill.

I suppose we’re all looking at others at one time or another,

creating scenarios for what ever reason we desire.

I like your take on the prompt, Nancy. Have a wonderful week, Isadora 😎

  2. Nancy, I think we are increasingly becoming a voyeuristic society. What are we doing when we scroll endless YouTubes but getting our kicks from others’ actions? That said, we have to have something to watch, so we are also becoming an exhibitionistic one as well. Good story!

    1. Lisa, I think we have been a voyeuristic society for quite some time now but the popularity and convenience of social media has certainly propelled that proclivity to new and highly creative heights. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I’m glad you enjoyed my story.
