Hazel

Written for Sue & Gerry’s Weekly Prompts

using the word ‘green’.
Here’s where the prompt took me.

Neither blue nor green but both at once
Her eyes shift color with the sun
Amber flecks like autumn’s dance
A hint of jade when day is done

Chameleon gaze that won’t stay still
Golden-green in morning’s glow
Soft as lichen on a hill
Warm as earth where wildflowers grow

What magic lets them change their hue?
Each glance reveals a different truth
In hazel eyes, the world breaks through
A prism holding fire and youth

  1. Coincidently, I used a Pink Floyd song on my ‘post’ tonight …

Were Her Eyes Olive or Hazel?

    Following my loss
    During the chaos
    In the quiet intermissions
    Tears would blur my visions

But clearness of sight did not even matter
Whether or not she had olive or hazel eyes
The closing curtain was already in tatters

I heard her eyes laugh; I felt them cry
And then I saw them die
