Our gracious host, Rochelle, is asking us to get
creative in 100 words or less using the photo
seen below. Welcome to Friday Fictioneers
This is where the prompt took me.

Behind door 54½ , Chloe finally puts away the last Christmas decoration; it was a lonely holiday and she’s still feeling a bit blue.
Behind door 71½ , Will stares at his phone and the unexpected text from his girlfriend breaking up with him; he thought she was the one.
At 4 PM, Chloe and Will step outside simultaneously, both seeking fresh air.
They collide.
“Careful!” He steadies her.
“Oh, thank you!”
Their eyes meet, two strangers sharing a moment’s warmth.
Chloe smiles. “It’s slippery.”
Will pauses. “I got you.”
He silences his phone and helps her down the stairs.

Excellent romantic spin on the image, Nancy.
Is it just me or does the intro to that Kinks song sound exactly like the melody for Jumpin’ Jack Flash?

It’s not you and it really does! The song is slower on their albums and doesn’t have this riff entrance; I guess they ramped it up for this live performance. Good ear, Li.
Thanks very much. I’m rooting for these two.

Come to think of it, I just heard another song with that intro: Funk Soul Brother.
You’re very welcome.

Dear Nancy,
A sweet story of how life can change directions on a dime. And I love me some Kinks.

And a reminder to be receptive as these chance encounters could be life-changing in wonderful ways.
When my husband and I were going to concerts back in the day, The Kinks were our favorite group; we saw them at least 8 times in the early 70s.
Thanks for your kind comments, Rochelle. Much appreciated as always.
Shalom

by the way, one more comment – the title could have led you to Paul Simon’s song “Slip Slidin’ Away“

Ah, but that would have been to obvious!
My trademark is trying to name my stories after songs (whenever possible) while featuring a totally different song. It’s the Sicilian Curveball! 😁

LOVED this encounter and it felt so real.
Also, another new song for me to learn with that Kinks jam –
have you ever hear dof the pretty poison song, Catch Me I’M falling?

Thanks so much for your very nice comments, Yvette. These two characters deserve somebody to love.
I do remember this song by Pretty Poison. It was a big part of the disco scene and I believe it was in a movie with John Cryer, but I have no idea what the movie name is. Thank you for sharing it this morning.

well we jyst noticed that the Pretty Poison song is also in Breaking Bad – a scene where Walt and Skylar are at the car wash and talking about air fresheners – only on the rerun watch watch did we realize the symbolism – Walt was falling again – but not falling in love – falling into that life of crime!
oh and this Pretty Poison was big at clubs!
It reminds me of a couple I know who met on the dance floor in 1989! they are still together and a few years ago, I played it for them on their anniversary

Can you believe we never watched “Breaking Bad”? I know …. how can that be?! One day we’ll do it!
Thanks for the info, Yvette. Great story about your friends.

Well, I guess that worked out nicely for Chloe and Will! 🙂
I love that Kinks song, which I’m not sure I had heard before. The opening reminds me a bit of the Stones’ “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.”

Jim Adams made that same comment about the Stones-like opening riff. This live version is not the one we usually hear which is slower and doesn’t have that opening. You may recognize the slower song when you hear it.
Thanks for your comments, Christian; I prefer to remain optimistic; I see good things for Will & Chloe. 😊

The opening guitar riff of Catch Me Now I’m Falling seems very similar to Jumping Jack Flash.

Good ear Jim! Actually, the song usually does not start out with that riff. If you listen to this song on the Kinks’ album, Low Budget, and most of their other recordings, you’ll find that it’s a much slower song without this Stones-like opening, which is probably reserved for live performances. I happen to like this version a lot. Thanks for pointing that out, Jim. Very interesting! 🎶

I love this! It reminds me of that older couple who are musicians living in apartments next door to each other that you wrote about. You got Freshly Pressed for that, didn’t you? Yeah!!

So nice that you remember that musicians story, Lois. It’s a favorite; I think this one will be too. Thanks very much!

Not that we need an excuse… 😉 There are days where this long distance thing is tiresome and feels like a waste of time and yet, it’s better than nothing. At least I have a “date” twice a week where I am talking to someone else besides the cat (on her last legs) or myself…
