Tidal Benediction

Here’s where the image took me.

The sun descends through layers
of its own making –
copper, rust, the bruised plum
of gathering dusk –
caught momentarily by a cloud
that splits its burning disc in two,
as if the world were holding its breath
between heartbeats.
