RDP Tuesday: situation

Written for RDP, where Martha asks us
to get creative with the word “situation”.
Thanks, Martha! Here’s my take.

When you suddenly feel your feet flying out from under you.
When the delicate side of your torso slams with incredible force into the unforgiving hardness of the porcelain princess.
When you are naked and crying out in exquisite agony.
When you cannot breathe or stand or even move without searing pain.
When you find yourself in the most exposed and vulnerable and ignoble set of circumstances.
That is what we call a “situation”.

  1. Any given moment or state of affairs can be described as a situation, and last night I heard a football announcer say that the one team put themselves in a situation after the play failed, which made me wonder why I was listening to this idiot. I loved your song, Nancy.

  2. OMG, Nancy, I’ve done the fall, ( trying to unsuccessfully get down safely from standing on a chest of drawers, 😳) and the slam, though fully clothed, (which obviously cushioned) … the pain is unbelievable, … Softest of hugs, and sending healing vibes, … 💙

    1. What could be so important that you climb up a chest of drawers, risking life and limb? I knew someone who was on a committee with me. I met the woman once and at the next meeting we found out she’d climbed up on her dresser to hang a pair of curtains, fell off and snapped her neck. And that was the end. Please don’t tell me you’re still doing that! Thank you for your very soft hugs, Penn

  3. Mr. Hipshatter “likes” your poem, even though his hip fracture was kitchen-generated, where he laid, immobile, until his beloved Sandra arrived (2 hrs later) to call the ambulance for the trip to the hospital and then off to 1/2 of April & all of May in Ortho-Rehab.
