It’s been a while since I’ve given you an update on my wrist surgery and I’m sure you are chomping at the bit. Who wouldn’t be?
Surgery was November 19; there was no cyst, as we thought …. just a clump of coagulated blood from the surprise ruptured tendon on the right side. Needless to say, the surgery was much more extensive than anticipated however, it went well. You can probably make out my scar which is just above the wrist joint; it will fade in time.
The original cast was removed after one week and replaced with a splint which was removed yesterday. Being immobilized for that long leads to atrophy and now I can barely raise my pinky or ring finger. That’s the reason for the funny contraption you see around my fingers; it was custom-made out of a heated moldable material that hardens during cooling. It keeps my fingers separate but attached to each other which allows me to move them simultaneously and give them a better workout. It isn’t comfortable, but I haven’t found any splint that is.
I am now in physical therapy which is not easy but if I want to regain the use of my pinky and ring finger, I have to do it. We haven’t even begun moving my wrist; I can bend it a little bit toward the ceiling, but it won’t budge at all in the downward direction. We’ll get there eventually. I have no pain outside of physical therapy and that’s a blessing.
Fortunately, I can dictate everything instead of typing; I would be very unhappy if I couldn’t write stories, send emails or texts. And in case you’re wondering, I have medical clearance to get my much needed and beloved mani/pedis! When we look good, we feel good.
Happy New Year, kids! ππ₯

Your hand/wrist looks much better than it did the last time I saw a photo of it, which I think was in late September. It looks like youβre giving the Vulcan hand salute (reference Mr. Spock from Star Trek).
As a Jackson Browne fan, I like the song your chose for your post. But perhaps this one, given the context of you post, might have worked, too:

Appreciate the update on the surgery, Nancy. Sounds like things are as good as they can be for the moment. I’m glad you’re in good hands (pun intended) and that you’re still able to post via dictation. Mani looks great!

Thanks, Li. According to the doctor, everything looks great. I guess I was being a little naΓ―ve and thinking therapy wouldn’t hurt so much. I appreciate your very good wishes.

I was going to send an email to see how you were doing. Thanks for the update. I don’t think I have heard from anyone that PT was “easy.” Will pray that it gets easier for you and your hand/wrist/fingers heal up quickly. Wishing you well, Nancy. Keep smiling!
