Written for Thursday Inspiration #311 –
“Caught Up In You”. Here’s my response.

For this week’s Thursday Inspiration, Jim Adams asks us to respond to the challenge by using the prompt word ‘never’, referring to the song “Caught Up In You” by 38 Special or another one of their songs. We can write about being deeply in love or captivated by someone, or perhaps about feeling a profound sense of devotion and a life-changing recognition of how good love can be, or we can write about anything else we think fits. Once again, my response is a musical one.
In the iconic song “Hopelessly Devoted to You” from the movie Grease, the character Sandy (played by Olivia Newton-John) is devoted to Danny (John Travolta), singing about her unwavering, almost desperate, love for him even though he acts dismissive of her in public. She’s singing from her perspective as a sweet, outsider girl, expressing her deep yearning for Danny despite his “greaser” ways.
This is “Hopelessly Devoted To You” by Olivia Newton-John
LYRICS
Guess mine is not the first heart broken
My eyes are not the first to cry
I’m not the first to know
There’s just no getting over you
I know I’m just a fool who’s willing
To sit around and wait for you
But baby, can’t you see there’s nothing else for me to do?
I’m hopelessly devoted to you
But now there’s nowhere to hide
Since you pushed my love aside
I’m out of my head
Hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you
My head is sayin’, “Fool, forget him”
My heart is sayin’, “Don’t let go
Hold on to the end”, that’s what I intend to do
I’m hopelessly devoted to you
But now there’s no way to hide
Since you pushed my love aside
I’m outta my head
Hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you
Hopelessly devoted to you

That’s all she wrote, kids. See you on the flip side. 😎

I listened to the soundtrack to Grease over and over and learned every single song on it. What a memory you have brought up. Good choice!

Great pairing. This movie always annoyed me- but I know it was savagely popular.

Thanks, Jodi. Not my favorite movie by a long shot, but I do like the way she sings this song.

Brings me back to college days in the women’s dorm, a large group of us dramatically belting out this song in the hallway, brushes in hand for microphones. Innocent way to blow off steam…😄
